The correct finding is Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. One form of energy can be converted to other form. My comment is this we use some mechanism to convert the form of energy from mechanical to electrical or viseversa. We lose some energy due to friction. Therefore input will never be equal to output.

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz is the one credited with the modern definition but the ideas been around for thousands of years.
