National Geographic reports that 66% of Americans (and like 20%) of Europeans think evolution is only one of competing theories that explain life on earth. Even serious priests, rabbis, ministers, and imams agree -- evolution is scientific fact supported by evidence. Where is the evidence of Noah's Ark?

I don't think there is one answer to your question. However, I suspect that Americans who reject evolution as the answer to the development of the specialization of characteristics required for any species to survive see it as conflicting with the theory of creationism. The defense they use is the story of genesis. "Because the bible says god created everything". The reality is that the bible is a document of revisionist history, and because much that is written in the bible is from verbal sources, it is not an accurate document of reality. An example of how a verbal account of an event is modified is gossip, How many of you have heard a story of an event that has been told by several people, and by the time you get the news, it is so corrupted, that it is impossible to winnow the truth from the data as it has been presented to you? The bible has been revised so many times: "the St. James version", "The old country version" which is the book used by the Amish. The verses in the bible that have been modified by the Catholic church in order to represent the roots of their teachings. Primitive cultures have made adjustments to the teachings of the "bible" that will accommodate and integrate with the religious practices of those cultures. So, belief in the bible is really a matter of faith, and so is a belief in a god.

Fortunately serious "scientists" see it as a theory because they understand what a theory really is; a hypothesis that is supported by scientific facts but which has not been, or cannot be "proven". A consensus of religious thinkers or pundits is not germaine as to what is a theory and what is a law. When a theory has been proven, at least to scientific satisfaction, it is called a "Law", not a fact. So, perhaps those Americans of which you speak understand the Scientific Process better than the rest? The theory of Evolution has nothing to do with proving or disproving initial creation, and as far as I can tell, only bothers those who insist the earth is only 6000 years old, which is not supported by any facts anywhere.

Saying something is a theory is not saying it's not possible. Maybe Americans are just less dogmatic than the rest of the world (kidding....).

I am an American and I personally believe in evolution because let's face it... it's been practically proven; the gradual change between the old homo-genus bones shows a distinct evolution.

I will never understand how anyone can not believe in evolution, especially since there have been so many changes in the last hundred years already!
To have faith is one thing, but to blindly believe? Since there are so many versions of the bible, or; therefore, religions, but only one for evolution, accounting for the whole earth???

Americans are known the world over for their arrogance and narcissism (as in the average American). Evolution is humbling to someone who assumes that they personally are the centre of the universe. End of explanation.

evoultion is NOT supported by science in that monkeys can't turn into people; this is Darwin's addition to evolution and he himself said it is wrong, so therefore nobody should believe it.
However, evoultion does exist in that an animal can adapt to its enviornment. for example animals near the equator are tall to realese more heat and animals near the poles are short to keep heat in
as for Noah's Ark, there have been many records that detail a story that is pretty much the same as the Biblical story and if thats not enough for you, there are in fact satelitte pictures of what scientists believe may be the ark in Turkey on mount Ararat buried in the ice but the government won't let people try to find it

Uh, dude, evolution IS a theory. Just like the theory of gravity....it's founded on very very good and reliable science, but it remains a theory.

Americans have a general ignorance about what evolution is. They think evolution means that "we evolved from monkeys", or that evolution is inherently athiestic.

As you can probably tell be these answers, about 66% of Americans are complete idiots as soon as they say one thing about evolution.
