I won't vote for someone unless they are a good candidate. Obama is not.
I am white and have no feelings of white guilt. I have never owned a slave or kept a black person from a job or any opportunity for that matter. My family lived in the North in those days and did not believe in slavery.
How come no one feels guilty for killing so many Chinese to build the railroads back then? Or the Native Americans? Just another issue brought to light to promote one political party or another.

I don't believe I have any guilt of slavery. I did not own any slaves, neither did my parents or grand parents. If anyone in my ancestory did own slaves their guilt would be between them and their creator. If you can show me a person alive that owns slaves then I can show you a person with guilt over slavery. (Yes, I know that there are people enslaved today). Until I own a slave (never) I will not have guilt over slavery.
That being said, so far I'd vote for Obama just to keep another Clinton out of the White House.

I am white. I am not voting for Obama, and I feel pretty good about that.
In the primaries I will vote for Hillary if she is still there because I am an independent, and then in the general election, I will vote Republican.
Just because Obama was not in the Senate in 2003 and therefore did not vote for the Iraq War does not mean he was against the war from the start, like he says. Hindsight is always 20/20. It does not mean that Obama would not have voted for war. He probably would have based on the intelligence reports the Senate got and the rhetoric the Clintons used to get Democrats to vote for the Iraq War.
Just because someone was not there to vote, does not mean they are a dove.

It is amazing how quick some of you are to say that you have never owned slaves. First of all, in order for that to have happened, you would have to be the OLDEST LIVING PERSON ON THIS EARTH. Secondly, just because he has a muslim name does not mean that he is a muslim, he was named after his father. His father is from Kenya and his mother is from Kansas.
There are some white people who will not vote for Obama because of the fact that he is a different race. Whether people want to admit to admit it or not, there is still racism around. It is not going to go anywhere any time soon. It won't change until ALL people change. A lot of times racism and bigotry go hand in hand and it is not exclusive to just one race.
There are some black people who will not vote for Obama because they do not feel that he is black enough. At the same time, some of these same black people are out producing children that are of mixed race as well. Ignorance is also not exclusive to just one race.
People should vote based upon what they feel the candidate can deliver. Not what race or gender they are. I am a registered Independent and I can guarantee you, I am voting with my head and not my heart. I need to know what the candidates stand for and what they plan to do. I don't care about who their parents, spouses or even their children are. I want to know what they are gonna do to make the United States of America a better nation. I want to know what they are gonna do for ALL citizens of America and not just their donors. I want to feel that my vote is going towards a positive change to America and hopefully go a long way to rebuilding our relationships with our allies.

I don't have "White guilt." If it ever existed, and I doubt that, I soothed my soul by putting in 7 hellish years in an inner city public school. If anything, it's made me a racist.
Frankly, I think the vote for Obama will go just the other way. I don't think a Black man can get elected President in the US in this day and age. I think racism, particularly in the South, has gone into hiding, but it's still there. We don't talk about it, we don't act like it, but it exists.

I don't think any white person feels guilty because of slavery. The individuals today didn't commit slavery personally and so I don't think they have any so called white guilt.
If that was the case people would have voted for Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton.
People who vote for Obama will vote for him because they think he's inspiring and because they feel that he'll be the best person for the job.
America can only be ready for a black president when it actually happens, that how we know that we're ready for one.
Blacks shouldn't vote for Obama just because he's black. Infact it's insulting to black people to make the assumption that they'll make an important decision like that solely based on race.

I am second generation American. Besides, America did not kidnap blacks and bring them here into slavery. Africans SOLD their own people into slavery to many countries. Why should you feel guilty. Are you a slave owner? Save your guilt for the things which YOU are to blame. And please remember, your vote will not count. Only the Electoral College Vote elects a president not the popular vote. Look up the Electoral College Vote to see how many your state gets. If the popular vote (our votes) counted, Al Gore would now be our president.

I think that if (IF) he gets into the Presidential race the white people that vote for him will do so just because he's a Democrat. In the primary it will be because they don't want to see a woman in the White House. I have news for you, 99.9% of white people don't have guilt about slavery.

I have no "white guilt" becuase I owned no slaves. No one in my family tree has ever owned slaves. Obama, while a good guy, needs a little more experience for my tastes. I would also prefer a vet in the White House. I would vote for Colin Powell but not Obama.

If anyone let this kind of guilt influence their voting decision, then they are not mature enough to vote. Voting and white guilt should be seperate issues in a voters mind. I have no intentions whatsoever of voting for Obama.
