Not trying to stereotype here . But most of the individuals I know from this era seem really far to the left in there views.

No, without a doubt people in their fifties are at least in this area, maryland , more liberal than anything else.

and I did not say peace and love were a far left view. These people just think that if we all hold hands with the terrorist and preach flower power that they will change there minds and no longer hate us.

It's a fair generalization. The era certainly had an huge impact on culture. It's also worthwhile to note: The Conservative Movement started gaining strength, in what I think was a reaction to The Far Left crowd.

Listen, Pat -
I've been happily married 36 yrs. Our son graduated 3rd in his class and created his own successful business. We both have impressive resumes and made good money our whole lives. Now, we're retired and living the good life.
That said, we probably fit the stereotypical "lib" definition as set forth by most of the con pinheads who post their junk here.
We believe in variety, choices, and being open to new experiences. We're not some stuck-in-a-rut, pot-roast-and-taters fundies who waste time with prayer meetings and protesting at Planned Parenthood Clinics.
While we belive in "choices," our whole life has been a continuous story of helping others and using the skills and talents we have to assist others.
We don't use "personal responsbility" as an excuse for just being cheap.

Are you talking about babyboomers? People born in the 40's-50's, grew up in the 60's, went to Woodstock, those kind of peace, love ,dope generation liberals? People who were against the war? For civil rights? Women's Lib? Idealists with hopes and dreams for a better future of generations to come?
My parents, friends, and politicians?
My answer: I certainly hope so.

Not Me! But I have a perfectly good reason. I graduated in `74. I had a Father, who was tried-n-true Republican? He instilled values in us. Values that aren't followed up by todays Democratic Party. Good Question. I hope to see you at the Polls at Election time?

the peace love dope era consisted of a very vocal minority and a very silent majority giving the era a deeper sense of divide than was actually occuring.

Only until they grow up...
;-) Seriously, I think most generations are pretty evenly split between libs and cons.
Granted, most of the free love and drugs crowd are liberal, just by definition. That does not mean that they are politically liberal, mind you, just socially liberal...

That is the sad effect of taking drugs. It makes your brain go sour and logic no longer works. A great example is how they hate Bush.. but want to give government MORE power than ever! They want to sue taxes to help the poor while they know someone like Bush will decide how to spend it.
Numskulls.

What? You did know that Bush, definitely not a liberal, won two elections right? If most people from the Baby Boom era were liberal, then how did Bush get elected twice? I think you are just surrounded by baby boom liberals. Just be glad you are not surrounded by crazy, evangelical christian republicans.

People who protested viet-nam,smoked pot,and grew long hair enjoyed pushing the limits of social acceptance. Now we realize once you lose civil freedoms,It's impossible to get them back. The FBI has already abused the Patriot act,but it will never be rescinded.Passports will soon be required for DOMESTIC flights. Will I need papers to visit my mom out of state? If liberal means less government, then I would answer YES
