Thanks Athena. So if the artist is under hypnosis and not even aware of painting or if the hand is moving by itself ala Alma Rumball, is this not inspiration or is it? canron4peace

That's an interesting question, since you can have art without inspiration, but you can't really create without inspiration. Art can sometimes just happen accidentally. I was a fine arts major in college and some of my works done in different mediums had accidental aspects of creativity, and drew the most praise from my profs during critique, which totally surprised me since I wasn't inspired. Then as a writer, I was completely inspired to write about varying topics so there was intensity and creativity to what I wrote existing side by side. If a line could be drawn, it's in the fact that those things just exist or they don't.

Well this is how I differentiate between inspiration and creativity;

INSPIRATION: the item or subject that starts the process of creating art (ie. a sunset, moon rise, blooming flower, the person you love)

CREATIVITY: the actual process of creating the art and the material used (ie, photography, paints, paper machet, pencil).

Inspiration is the source, creativity is the outcome. There's no definite line.
