The only things that helped when my daughter did that was a warm (not hot) bath and seeing a chiropractor a couple of times a week for an adjustment. Getting adjusted gently changes the baby's position. Sometimes he'll go back to where he was, but not always. You might talk to your doc to see if that's something you should look into. Aside of helping with moving him off your sciatic nerve, it'll make your back feel lots better, especially the further along you get.

I've got some buldging discs in my lower back which has given me sciatica (and some wicked-painful muscle spasms). Ironically, I seem to be doing better since I've been pregnant.

Anyway, I can tell you what's helped me.

1) When a baby is sitting on the nerve that means it's a false pain signal. Keep in mind that there is no tissue damage happening to your body at all - tell yourself "this is fake," - that's a technique for dealing with the emotional side of the pain (which it will surprise you how huge that is).

2) Keep your lower back strengthened, and your leg muscles stretched. (helps with the muscle seizing pain). Simply walking or swimming is great for this. When I'd start to hurt, I would go for a quick stroll, and often feel much better.

3) Ice or hot pack your lower back where the nerve starts.

4) Talk to your doctor about any meds you can take if you need them. I've got codien handy just in case I get back spasms again (the spasms can induce labor, so I've got to make sure IF they happen, they don't last long).

5) Try a new chair - I got a new one at work with a good lumbar support, it's been very helpful.

Good luck

Ooooh ouch! That happened to me during my last pregnancy. I had the worst sciatica and leg pain. Rest in the most comfortable position you can, for as long as you can, and do gentle stretches. That's all I can say. It's such a relief after they are born!
