What made you come up with your decision, if its not religious related?
Do you see your child as healthy as a vaccinated one?

Anything else you would like to add is also welcome.

This is obviously a hot topic.

I have two (our oldest) with almost everything (1 of them actually got chicken pox and negated the "need" for that vaccine) and two (our youngest) with nothing or next to nothing.

Reasoning put simply, I (we) didn't know then what we know now. Plus we noticed every time our oldest two got vaccinated, they had huge setbacks. Luckily, they recovered, but those setbacks were rather un-nerving in the mean time. (When they stick an infant with 3 different needles each with a combo-vaccine, what can you expect?)

Both my husband and I have done research on the topic (separately from each other) and we have also researched healthy and safe alternatives in the event of pandemic spread of diseases.

Our children that have no vaccinations are just as healthy if not healthier than the other two that are vaccinated. They hardly even get a runny nose and if the family catches a "bug" they are the last ones to get it (actually, our youngest hasn't ever gotten sick, even with a "bug" in the house).

My kids are vaccinated but they were delayed. I did not follow the recommended schedule, which was designed by the insurance companies it was not designed for any medical necessity. Having most of them done at 2, 4, and 6 months cuts down on their paperwork, claims, etc. (My aunt works for Aetna). I also did my research on the vaccines after my 5 month old died 7 days after getting her shots (87% of babies that die of SIDS die within 14 days of getting their shots). Those numbers were to great for me so I started researching when I decided to have more kids. My doctor worked with me and we delayed. My kids did not even start getting shots until they were 6 months old and no DPT shot until 16 months old. I also work in the medical field and can tell you that there is some information not made available to parents that concerns some of the adverse side effects of these shots. For instance, the DPT shot alone has an adverse side effect of apnea and hypopnea (cessation of breathing). Take those side effects alone and add in the effects of the other 3 shots they get with that one and it is pretty scary, these are tiny little babies. I have seen 2 babies die after getting shots. One died within minutes and the other a few days after. Your child cannot be refused to enter school either because of not having shots. Some children cannot have them because of other medical reasons, does this mean they cannot have an education then??? No it does not. When I was in school for my surg tech classes one of the ladies in their with me had a daughter that never had any vaccines and she graduated high school and was in college...how do I know this, because she was also in our class. She could not have any of the vaccines because of a medical condition she had. What is right for one baby may not be right for the next. Do your research and know your child.

You know I actually chose to vaccine, but before hand I didnt study up on this. I simply just done it, because everyone else in my family (Including me) has had their shots so why not my daughter? Im going to look at these links these people has given you, and maybe I will change my mind. Im glad you asked this question. But you dont dont do the vaccines, doesnt the children have to have them before they start school? =/ - jeωeℓℓчssα's мαмα *; Edit; Since Jewellyssa has had her first set of shots, can I choose to not do the 2nd set? Ha! Sorry Im asking questions instead of answering yours!

I stopped vaccinating after my sons 2 month set. I was weary about then to begin with, but let myself be talked into it by my family and his doctor. He cried for hours afterward and was just not the "same". Any mother out there knows that you can tell subtle differences in your child.. he was just not my same happy baby and so i desided to do more research before allowing any more vaccines.

Right now, my offical stance is that we are delaying until 2. He won't be recieving all of the vaccines, and they will be spread out.

Hes 15 months, and i'm still researching. Its a long road to take, but its something i feel every parent should look into before blindly allowing toxins to be injected into thier child.

I am just going disease by disease... researching the risk of the actual disease compared to the reaction incidence.

I have already marked hib, prevnar, varicella, mumps, rubella, hep b, and pertussis off my list. The others are still being researched and desided on.

There are too many things wrong with vaccines... I couldn't possibly list everything here.

Vaccines do not make kids healthier overall... It is a trade-off. You protect them against specific illnesses and leave them open to get sick easier from other things.

My son had 3 colds in the first 4 months on his life. In the 11 months since then, hes been sick once. While the rest of the kids around him are getting ear infection after ear infection and colds that just won't go away, his body is fighting off everything he comes into contact with. I know he's come into contact with things because IVE been sick. I'm sure nursing has something to do with it... but thats all the more reason not to expose him to unneeded toxins.

There is not enough research done on vaccines, and we have too many... will they just keep adding to the list? Where will it end?

What about the illnesses that we have never vaccinated against, that have dissapeared? If vaccines are the sole reason for the decline of illness, then what about scarlet fever? What about TB? What about typhoid fever? (there is a vaccine for that, but its not used here regularly) Why aren't these diseases running rampant?

What about the increase in long-term health problems? Cancer, diabetes, arthritis... ? Has any long-term study ever been done to see if theres a link? ( not that I can find! )

There are just too many questions that havent been answered for me. Its a tough subject, and something that every parent should make thier own desision on.

I am POSITIVE that my son is healthier for the lack of vaccines. Like i said, it's a trade off. I may find that a few of the vaccines are worth it for me... But right now, hes too young.

Bottom line: We do too many, too young and parents aren't given enough information to make an informed decision (and its not presented as the DECISION that it is)

Honestly this is such a complicated decision, that I did so much research on I couldn't even really get into all the whys and whatnot. Much as I love to cite sources in my answers it is just so hard to find unbiased information, or to offer enough biased information that the truth may be found by looking through the bias.

There is almost no truely unbiased information, heck on many vaccines there is almost no scientific information at all. Vaccinations go through the fewest and smallest double-blind studies of any drugs.

Basically my decision was not to vaccinate until age two, and then selectively vaccinate. There is anecdotal evidence that it is safest to wait until age two. There are other countries that do not vaccinate until age two and they have lower rates of SIDS, autism, and other problems. However they also have different prenatal care, medical practices, diets, levels of pollution, etc so there is not a clear cut link.

Some vaccines are just silly. Chicken pox is such a safe disease, and up to 20% of kids get chicken pox from the shot. (According to the info I was given by my last pro-vax Dr. I didn't read it until after I had fired her for other reasons that visit otherwise I would have tossed her own information in her face). I would rather my child get wild chicken pox then lab altered vaccine any day.

Also german measles (rubella) is a mild disease that is well tolerated by almost all individuals. However as you know rubella can cause severe birth defects if it is contracted by the mother during pregnancy. Vaccines do not always take, and do not last forever, and often only cover one strain. Immunity acquired naturally is generally very effective for life. Of course acquiring these diseases naturally is hard to do.

The other thing about most vaccines is that they are given via blood. Once a bacteria or virus is in your blood it is really already too late. Your immune system is designed to first attack germs before they enter the body. It is designed to attack them on your mucous membranes, on your skin, and in your digestive system. When you are pregnant this first tier of your immune system is boosted, and your blood immunity is surpressed so that your body is less likely to attack the baby. If you have altered the balance of your immune system and not given the first tier the ability to fight certain diseases that can lead to problems.

It is a complicated decision and given the lack of good information I would never tell anyone what is the right thing to do. I will say, however, to the other person who said not vaccinating is child abuse. Failing to do your own research, to truely challange your own doctor to tell you the risks and benefits and to show you their sources, failure to think logically and to rather only do what the doctor says because they say to do it. THAT is child abuse. ALL doctors make mistakes, some much more so than others. Whole medical systems make mistakes (thalidomide, "twighlight birth", episiotemies, etc, etc). As a parent you are your child's main advocate and protector it is YOUR job to make medical decisions for your child -not your doctors.

IF you are going to accept any injection from a doctor at any time for any reason. DEMAND to see the patient insert, demand a copy to take home. READ the patient insert before agreeing to take the injection. DEMAND that the injection be drawn in front of you, ensure that the DIN on the insert and the DIN on the bottle match. DON'T BE A STATISTIC - PROTECT YOURSELF. Also always read the information provided before using any other drug as well.

Medicine is much better these days, but I know my father and his siblings were not vaccinated after their 6 year old brother died from a reaction to a smallpox vaccine. I think fear of putting something like that into the child's bloodstream

My son is 4 months and not vaccinated. I think he is perfectly healthy, and perhaps healthier. He didn't go through the mild case of each disease he was being "protected" from either. I don't want to inject a disease into my baby, under the possibility that he might die from a reaction to the injection. That's a good enough reason for me.

I will raise my hand on this one. I did A LOT of research, not just on-line, but in books and medical journals. I refuse to let my child become a guinea pig for the pharmaceutical corporations. There is a huge body of research about the negative effects of vaccines. They are also full of toxins, heavy metals and animal products; such as eggs and fetal tissue.

I do not rely on those that don't do their research (those that vax blindly) to protect my child. I rely on long-term breastfeeding, natural immunities and immune system building. I trust their bodies to be able to fight off whatever illnesses they may contract.

All of the children I know who are vax-free are significantly healthier than their counterparts. Their parents have done exhaustive research and made an informed choice.

Most parents who vax don't even know that they are supposed to keep a record of the lot numbers of the shots their children are given incase there is a recall or an report of reaction. Most people don't know that they are supposed to report ALL VACCINE REACTIONS even fever and swelling at the injection site. That's why i included the link to the government's VAERS website.

My son hasn't had his kindergarten vaccines because of medicine he is on for his ulcerative colitis. He has not gotten sick but it does worry me.

To the woman that said that public schools do not accept kids that are not vaccinated...that is not true everywhere. I live in Ohio and I had concern because my child is not able to get them and they told me that I just have to sign a waiver. She said that there are many families that opt not to. I won't say anything about where you live but it is not required everywhere.

Many people feel strongly about this issue. You need to do research on this issue for your self and not depend on people on yahoo answers to provide you with answers. As obviously most people here are mainstream.

Try reading a book by Stephanie Cave, It is called what your doctor may not tell you about vaccines.
