I will second the suggestion to read Richard Dawkins. The Blind Watchmaker would be a good place to start; or Climbing Mount Improbable.
The eye started evolutionarily as light sensitive skin and progressed over millions of years from there. In fact, I think eyes evolved twice: once for animals and once for insects.

The eye is a product of evolution.
People who claim that it is so complex that it could only have come from design, have not thought about it very hard. All that's needed to understand how it could have come about through incremental evolution is to break it down into evolutionary *steps*, not *parts* (like iris, retina, optic nerve, lens).
It is silly to break the eye down by *parts* because parts do not develop in isolation ... it is not necessary for one part (e.g. the retina) to be fully formed before other parts (e.g., the optic nerve) can begin developing.
The same applies to almost ALL "which came first?" questions that creationists like to throw at evolution. The answer is always "neither came first ... they evolved together." In other words, nature does not develop things in pieces or parts ... things develop together.
Instead, you need to break things down into small functional *steps* where each step provides an incremental improvement .. no matter how small ... over previous steps.
Once people understand this ... the 'design' objection to evolution just dissolves.

there is no doubt that the human eye is the result of evolution. If you want you can say it was designed by evolutionary processes. Eye evolution is well understood. You can use wikipedia, google and google scholar to find plenty of relevant articles.
Also this question has repeatedly been asked and answered here on yahoo answers, so you also could look at other answers to your question.

Evolution.
1. When I woke up this morning, I put on my glasses. If my eyes were intelligently designed, I would have muscles to focus my eyes without the need for glasses.
2. Our retinas are backward! No engineer would design an eye this way! The nerve bundles come out the FRONT of the retina, combine, then go through a "hole" in the retina, making a blind spot. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I don't think so, but I think our evolution a) is no longer occuring in our bodies so much as our minds, b) is coming about very very very slowly and c) not very widespread at this time. I truly believe that there are a very relative few who are different enough that one may say they are the beginning of a new evolution of the human species, but like I said it isn't the body that is doing the changing anymore.

Even if one argues evolution, think about the universe and its natural tendency towards randomness. I mean, if an earthquake occurs, It will make a tidy room messy, but at the same time it wouldn't make a messy room tidy. Someone or something had to come up with the initial design or the initial ideas behind the human eye. Think of how many intricate structures are involved and how it all ties into the rest of the body systems.

If you consider that some animals don't have eyes, like jellyfish, then you can see how it is evolution that brought the eyes about. Some creatures evolved into being able to process information in the visual spectrum with eyes. Also, their are many variations on eyes across species. Some can see better in the dark, some can detect infra-red. Some detect movement better, etc...
