First go to the device manager in windows, see if the printer is recognised, check if there are any conflicts or problems ( If there are they will be flagged ). Go HP's website and download then install the latest printer drivers for your operating system. Ensure your HP is selected as the default printer in control panel, printers.

Try using an updated driver from HP. I've seen the drivers that Windows provides do the same thing before. Just go to www.hp.com, go to the download drivers section, and search by your model number.

Go to the HP web site and download the latest drivers and when you do this go to the microsoft web site and scan and down load your microsoft updates as this could be why your drivers from xp are not up to date. Good luck.

Use the following link, select which Operating System you're using, and download the latest drivers from HP. (Don't forget that once you've downloaded them, you have to install them. lol.)
