People are afraid of about the same things, and over time they combined the fears into one creature. Since people are afraid of pretty much the same things, the creatures - dragons - ended up in mythology for both Eastern and Western culture.

first is the question if they where in fact not real but being that they did exist (still might not sure) take a look at an animal that can so things the way dragons did fly, give out some sort of out spray to attack and defend (fire acid chill and other things) it was fear and admired and tales became stories and stories became myths as things usually do

in cliffs in the deserts near china heads and bones of dinosaurs were found so they drew the lifesize representations of the bones and used them for medicines ,, and the peoples of the northern siberian plains were not just ethnic chinese they were also redhaired blondes like celts and germans that moved west as they conquered and left their homes with the legends also trade around the earth didnt start with the europeans at all theres evidence more and more that folkes just went where thay wanted to any time

Most likely someone found a dinosaur skeleton, and drew on that when trying to figure out what it was, decided it was a dragon, and wrote stories about it from there...

I am not convinced that dragons were/are mythological and there may have been a winged lizard or some kind. Maybe not "fire breathing" but what if they hissed or spit some kind of acidic stomach bile or something...could be interpreted as fire, ey?
