if calgary loses both games in regulation and the avs win both their games in regulation the avs will make the playoffs.
they can tie if calgary loses one game in regulation and wins a game in ot or so and colorado wins both games.
calgary has been playing well and i wouldn't think they will let down fast.
calgary-96 pts.
colorado-93 pts.
situation #1-calgary loses both games and avs win both-
calgary-96 pts.
colorado-97 pts.
situation #2- calgary loses one in reg and one in ot or so and the avs win both-
calgary-97 pts
colorado-97 pts.
if you are wondering about what they do to snap a tie here's this:
Tie Breaking Procedure
If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order:
1. The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage).
2. The greater number of games won.
3. The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing.
4. The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season.

Calgary's next game is against their arch rivals, the Edmonton Oilers, on Saturday night. Now, although the deficit is only 3 points for Colorado to make up with like 2 games remaining, one on Sunday against each other, this match up for Calgary on Saturday night can be the one that gets them into the playoffs. Edmonton has won only one or two games since the Trade Deadline deal of Ryan Smyth, getting shutout in their last two games, both of which were against Minnesota, a team currently in the playoffs. Minnesota is a team that plays a little better in their own end than Calgary does right now, but Calgary can score at will more than they have been able to the last couple of seasons, so Edmonton will have much trouble in their own end on Saturday night. I believe the game is also in Calgary, which gives them a huge edge since they have the best home record in the NHL. Calgary has the front door wide open going into Saturday nights game against Edmonton to make the playoffs. All they have to do now is walk through it. I expect the Flames to make the playoffs over the Avs this year.

Well if Calgary loses to Edmonton they deserve to lose the playoff spot. That should be a cakewalk for them. Edmonton at home, maybe, just to screw Calgary and put on a show for the fans, but not in Calgary. Calgary can even clinch with an overtime loss to Edmonton and again with Colorado (should Colorado beat Nashville), which would be a heartbreaker for the Avs, win the game yet lose the playoff spot.

The Flames only need 1 win to clinch 8th. But if they lose to Edmonton, they have 1 game remaining. If Colorado wins both games and Calgary loses 1 but wins 1, then they will have a tie-breaker to see who gets into the Post-Season and who doesn't. I have a feeling that Calgary just needs to beat the Oilers tomorrow and BAM! The Flames come out on top of Colorado. But - Just remember, who ever comes out on top at the end of the season (Just 2 more games), they only clinch 8th seed. Other than that, I think it is a tight standings for both of the teams. So, I have nothing against Edmonton, but Oilers, You gotta let the Flames win!!

Calgary will make it for one reason. The Oilers are horrible and Calgary gets to play them on Saturday. All they need to do is win that game and the Avs are locked out.
In the UNLIKELY event that it comes down to Sunday's game, I would give the edge to the Avs based on home ice and momentum. But I just do not see it happening. (In fact, I think Colorado beats Calgary Sunday no matter what; I just don't see it making a difference.)

Gotta go with the Flames. They have two pops at getting the one win they need... and that is only necessary if Colorado wins both their last games. It really could come down to that Sunday matchup between the two of them. How exciting is that!? Whoever wins, I hope it comes down to that last game. That is the kind of drama that makes hockey awesome.
