i need it for an article... i need tips on preserving leather and paper to maintain its texture, color, etc.

Controlled temperature and humidity so it stays about 70F and 50% and doesn't vary much, limit exposure to light. Call the nearest museum that has a collection similar items and ask for details. A cowboy museum might be best for leather and good documents collection for paper.
