People, the word is "DEFINITELY!" Am I the only one who knows how to spell that word? Also, I just saw the word "always" with two Ls. Folks, let's, at least, appear to be intelligent and articulate.

articulate: expressed, formulated, or presented with clarity and effectiveness.
So, no, I'm Insane! Help!... I meant "articulate." "Literate" applies to being able to read and write. "Articulate" applies to reading and writing correctly and with clarity.

You are not alone. Anyone who wants to communicate well does this.

Some other people do not care if they are misunderstood, or come across like drooling morons.

Um. The built-in spell-check Yahoo has didn't work on my computer until recently. I don't know what changed but I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt that at least some others here have the same issue.

Secondly, I am one who often forgets to spell check. My spelling has always been near-perfect; however my typing leaves something to be desired. My mistake is that I remember the former and forget the latter- since I know I spelled it right the first time, I often won't use spell check, often to find that while I had the correct spelling in my mind, my hands did something altogether different.

Just hoping that answers your questions about some of us.
Granted I do know there are many who simply don't care.

You're not totally alone, because I proof-read everything I write and I'm very embarrassed if I overlook a typo. But you and I are in the minority. I was a university instructor for five years. I was shocked at the number of students who were only semi-literate. They couldn't proof-read their work, because they wouldn't recognize an error if they saw one. And all of these people had come through the public school system.

Your question reminds me of a confrontation I had with my son's third grade teacher in 1990. My son, intelligent and gifted, had brought home a paragraph he had written, for which he had received an "A." Even I, his mother, had to admit it was garbage. I took the paper to his teacher and pointed out to her that the small bit of the paragraph that was even legible was misspelled. She shrugged and replied, "Some people can spell and some can't." I learned later that this kind of attitude was standard in the public school system. Most students who have come through the public school system in the past twenty years or more have been cheated of an education and their intelligence has been insulted.

I would not say you are the 'only one', but you are one of the few.

Sometimes kids (particularly) get in a hurry and forget to push that little link in the right hand corner of the box to check spelling.

The two "l's" in always is probably a typographical error.

Don't be too hard on the people who use this site. Many of the people are not native speakers and I personally think it is terrific that they are even attempting to use this site to answer some of their questions. Would I attempt to go on a site where I was not a native speaker? No! Would you?

I am not qualified to judge others, so sit back and relax and hope no one judges you.

You may be assuming that English is the first or only language that many posters know, which is not correct. Even if they misspell definately or always, but get most of the other words correct, their English is better than my Spanish, French, or whatever their first language is.

So you may be intelligent and articulate, but being thin skinned and arrogant detracts mightily from that.

I do too myself...
But at the end of your paragraph you said lets, at least, appear to be intelligent and ARTICULATE. Don't you mean intelligent and literate?

I almost always do. There have been a couple of times I have submitted before I had spell checked.

If grammar and spelling are important to you, then this may not be the place for you.

Judging by what we see posted here, I'd have to say, yes, I think you are the only one!
