I live in Grove City, Ohio, which is very close to Columbus, Ohio. I want something that's friendly and has a place to sit and knit.

Craftster has an entire forum just for crafty info about Ohio: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?board=38.0

You should definitely check it out. I did a quick search, and found a LYS (local yarn shop) that people seem to like:

Knitters Mercantile
http://www.knittersmercantile.com
214 Graceland Boulevard
Columbus OH 43214
(614) 888-8551

If you want a friendly place to sit & knit, join a local S'nB or other knitting group:

Downtown Columbus Knit & Crochet

Stitches East Side

Sometimes you just gotta go to the Internet! Knitpicks is a great site. Also if you google up several Knitting Blog sites (such as Yarn Harlot, Too Much Wool, My life in Stitches) they have great links.

I started a Saturday afternoon knitting circle three months ago after my favorite knitting store closed in Petaluma ( the two left are a snooty high end store and the more down to earth Michaels). I found a sympathetic cafe owner who had just opened his cafe. He was estactic to have knitters and other yarn divas come to his cafe and create. We started with 4 and now have over 20 coming in a short time. Other knitters are a great source of local info.

Borders tends to support group meetings as well. Other options include the Public Library (especially if they have a conference room) or a Community Rec Center.

Create the space and opportunity and they will come:)

Yours in Yarn,

Mimi

If you have a Barnes & Noble or Borders Books near you, look at some of the knitting magazines. They often have a section toward the back with yarn stores listed by geographical location. Sorry, I don't have any of my magazines handy to give you more direction.

Go to knittersreview.com and post--it's free to join and you'll have an answer within the day. There's nothing those knitters on that forum don't know. Also try
http://find.mapmuse.com/re1/interest.php?brandID=KNITTING_SHOPS. Sometimes it's not updated but it's pretty good. Good Luck
