It depends on what car you're talking about. On most systems the ABS unit is located somewhere remote from the master cylinder, but on some Delphi (mostly 90s GM), European and upscale Japanese automakers make them integral with the master cylinder.

its after teh master cyl, the lines come out of the master cyl and then usually go into a control box which on some cars is mounted right nest to it... that computer takes input off a sensor in each wheel and adjusts the fluid pressure to each line accordingly

It's hooked up to the same brake lines, it basically jumps in and controls the fluid pressure when the wheels lock up.

Its actually in the wheel and the sensor goes to the computer so the computer knows which wheel is doing the spinning and can correct it. computer is typically in the wheel well.
