I am 62 years old. I have never had a criminal record, taken drugs or gone round in a gang. As a child, if I broke the rules I got a good hidding off my father. It didn't do me any harm but it does make you think before you offend again.

Spare the rod and spoil the child. I was spanked when I was a child. Not beaten, spanked. One solid swat on the butt. It worked. It humiliated me and showed me that I would be humiliated more if I didn't learn to behave as I should. Never hurt me and I have not spent a day in jail.

Much of the time. Although unrefuted child rapers and or murderers would lift this rule for me. And perhaps psychopathic, witnessed gangland type monsters.

......I had assumed the questioner was referring to the death sentence which is how I answered (How would you feel if you convicted someone, he/she got the death sentence and was executed, then later he/she was proven innocent by DNA, or otherwise?).......
Spanking is up to the parent (if not overdone).

No. A smack on the rear end is not abuse. And it certainly doesn't teach a child that violence is acceptable.

Better to be swatted on the rear end as a child than pounded in the rear end in prison later!

I think every kid ought to get their butt whacked every couple of months or so. It shouldn't be done as a specific punishment however. It should be done as a routine.
Over the course of those couple of months the kid undoubtedly has done something which merits getting whacked, whether his parents found out about it or not.

nope but i also have seen the stats about it not being effective. stats can be made to lie but even with a death penalty there are still violent offenders who get fed three times a day and have a dry place to sleep because the american people pay for it. now that right there makes me mad. not sure i want to pay for a multi rapist or mass murderer to eat and watch tv for a couple of decades. time to put them to use in human trials plus they grow their own food. not paying for you to live sorry.

No. I find that there are some adults that would benefit from a good beating. Not for correction, but just because they deserve it. Unfortunately, our legal system frowns on it.

I disagree with it unless it is needed to prevent someone from getting hurt. For example, a smack on the hand to prevent a child from touching a hot stove. I don't begrudge anyone their right to spank though. I just think it's unnecessary and does not teach self-discipline.

Nope. I got the occasional whack when I needed one. Don't see anything wrong as long as it doesn't go to extremes.
