95 % of the time, I protect my heart...But once every blue moon, a true woman crosses your path, and you can't help but to let yourself go... because, every fiber in your soul tells you it's true..and you can only close your eyes, sitting, praying, she feels the same way about you.. Sometimes it's a bit like an investor. We want our heart or our savings to work for us. We have the ability to love or we have enough change to invest. Both ways work towards a dream that can be either selfish or selfless. But the bottom line is that we need a return on our investment. Not to loose all.
My answer to your question is we need to do both in such a way that we can minimise the hurt and maximise our gain. To do this we must be prepared to loose a little and profit by this. The profit lies in the knowledge gained. We must take small risks that are not too great and be prepared for the possibilities. As we understand more about your lover or your investment , we make choices based upon this understanding. By closing your heart you join the armies of the true loosers.

I try to protect it so often because it's not the way to live my kind of life. But it keeps opening as if by it's own volition. Guarding it feels safer. But opening it is sometimes worth the risk. Those "sometimes" make me weak. But thankful that I have a heart to open.
