Socrates said something along the lines of true knowledge is in knowing that you know nothing. Is this statement true, or are there things we do "know" such as knowing that we percieve.

What Socrates is really railing against is false certainty.

There is a story told of a student who went to learn from a legendary teacher. This teacher did not just accept any student, so this one decided to try and impress him with the vast amount of things he had already learned from other sources; to show he was an excellent student and could only learn more from a truly excellent teacher.

In response, the teacher offered the student some tea. But as he poured it into the student's cup, he didn't stop... tea spilled over the brim and all over the table. "You are like this cup," the teacher said. "Until it is empty, no more can be put into it."

Which is more or less the point Socrates is making. Before you can learn ANYTHING, you have to first admit that there is something you CAN learn. People who think they have the answer are not usually open to new information which might give them a different answer. Not only can they not learn and adapt, the answer they have is likely to be a wrong one!

We know we exist and that we are capable of thinking...

We know also that we have emotions.. and that we can feel happy at times and sad at other times...

That... those simple little pieces of information or knowledge are the only ones needed to live... and if we are capable of understanding them to the fullest... we will be able to pursuit happiness and reach it...

By knowing we exist and think, we know for sure we can expand our little tiny knowledge by learning... by knowing we can learn and that we have emotions we then can learn about our own emotions and control them to our advantage...
By knowing we can control our emotions, we then can be happy all the time or secure about ourselves and our future.... Then we can keep growing, maturing, and learning..

Isn't it nice to know we have something to learn every day the rest of our lives!?

It would be a boring life if we were capable of knowing it all.... What would it be the meaning or reason of living a life without growing and learning... No reason at all..

Yeah... we know nothing compared to the infinite knowledge that exists.... but... what we know is enough to live and enjoy living...

Hope that helps!

CHRIS

Ah the joy of philosophy. Technically, I guess we don't really know anything. Take for examples numbers. Have you ever seen "three". I am not talking about the symbol for 3. I am not talking about 3 of any item. But have you seen "three"?

No you haven't. Therefore you have a manmade concept. And that is not knowing, that is just going along with the consensus.

We know at least small things for sure; however, it is smart to realize that there are a lot of things that you don't.

And that means I have true knowledge of math, as I know I know nothing about that subject XD

Do you feel something when you are creative? That is the contrary of knowing, to know is to feel only what you should feel:
-to fear when the danger is related to the present
-to fight when it's time, not to fight when it's over
-to feel good today, tomorrow there is no more existence
-there is no future, if you can overcome the illusion "future" then you know what you should know.
-there is future because there is events, but in reality : events are just dreams, you are part of the dream.

yup this statement is true.
knowledge is limitless...you learn every second .....if we have the curiosity and the effort of learning more about things(to think that we know nothing)..is the true path to true knowledge.

Yes it is true. Knowledge is being vulnerable to not knowing everything. Its ok to acknowledge that you're sure of but be smart enough to know that there's no possible way you can know everything.

The more we know, the more it is realized we know very little. Each 'answer 'generates at least two other questions.
