Yes, its just because he revelutionized the dull phase of limited over Cricket ..in to fast moving "Hitman Game"
with his other opener Kaluwitharana in World cup -1996.
After 16 years he really is very fit & strong in the field.
Sanath showed why he is among the best in this world cup.
Now he has more than 1000 runs in world cup matches,...
Nearing 300 wickets mark,..he is the most valuable cricketer in any team who qualified to Super-8.
He is One of the world's most breathtaking strikers of the ball, Jayasuriya found belated fame as a pinch-hitter at the 1996 World Cup, and then demonstrated that he was also capable of massive scoring in Tests, (340)eventually becoming Sri Lanka's highest Test run-scorer. He remains dizzily dangerous, Fit in phisique, and powerfully built, he cuts and pulls with awesome power, and his brutal bat-wielding is at odds with his shy, gentle nature.
Wised-up opponents have learned to set traps in the gully and at third man to stem the flow of runs, but on song he can be virtually unstoppable, capable of scoring freely on both sides of the wicket.

Jayasuriya is also an extremely effective and canny left-arm spinner, especially in one-day internationals where his stock leg-stump darts are mixed up with clever variations in pace. Jayasuriya served commendably as Sri Lanka's captain for a successful tenure after the sacking of Arjuna Ranatunga in 1999. His leadership style was consensual in comparison to the Napoleon approach adopted by Ranatunga, and he soon built a happy and unified team. Sanath still was far from finished, and he bounced back in 2004 with his most prolific year in Test cricket since 1997. The year included a blazing second-innings century against Australia at Kandy that nearly levelled the series and a marathon double-hundred against Pakistan at Faisalabad. Twin centuries followed during the Asia Cup 2004 and his form was impressive enough for Somerset to sign him up for a season of County Cricket in 2005. And in the Indian Oil Cup in 2005, Jayasuriya became only the fourth batsman to get to 10,000 runs in one-day cricket.
Now he has nearing 12,000 mark only achieved by Non other than Sachin Tendulkar.
he is the world record holder of highest number of sixers in International Matches.
Honestly man,....He is qualified to be "The Best" for too many reasons.

Hay, Guttila,..Buddy..Good Question..!
Sanath Jayasuriya...???
They say "the pocket power house in Sri Lankan cricket "
He has built Tremendous image specially in Limited over Cricket.
This man Jayasuriya has contributed His amazing skills to The Game Of Cricket, immencely so far.... .
Sanath Jayasuriya, Of Sri lanka has been entertaining the Cricket fans all over the world, and his revelutionised aproach as one day opener slot made "Cricket" competitive among Soccer, baseball & baket ball.
Since some of our cricket fans unaware of What other fans say aboutour glorious cricket.
They generally say one full day of any game make them boring.
Actually..in some extend, there's lil' truth about the comment.
Cuz i live in a north American country, when any one now critisize Cricket, then i would say about Sri Lankan cricket & 20-20 cricket of 4-5 hours.
Now sanath & kalu 1996's revolutionised it,.....we have exciting future of Cricket.
Every bats men, hence started copying Sanath,..... Then came>>>>Attacking Cricketers Like Afridi,Hayden,Shevag... etc.
So my beloved friend,he is undoubtedely the Best batsmen.
Its a treat to watch when he starts going !
Bang ! ***** Bang !*****
The black horse goes berserk !

hello,

I think its too early to make any descision about who's the best batsman in WC- 2007 because we are only in the early stages of the super 8. No doubt, he's one of the best in consideration to his age but there are a lot of batsmen who can always spring up a surprise. Even Mathew Hayden & Greame Smith (till now) has played exceptionaly well. So in conclusion of my answer i'd like to say that a batsman who can deliver when he is needed to,is perhaps the best in the business and i think as the WC- 2007 will progress further we will be quite clear about who the best is.

thank you.............***
