The website says the marriage license is good for 60 days and can be used in other states. Does this mean if you don't have a wedding ceremony that the license is void? I don't understand.

Marriage licenses DO have expiration dates. The license is just the piece of paper that ALLOWS you to get married, and is only valid for about 90 days. The marriage CERTIFICATE, which is issued after you are legally married, does not have an expiration date.

I was married in Ca. and we were given an expiration date of 90 days... If we did not marry in that time our liscense was voided... So, it may be something to that effect.

There are different types of expirations though...

So, if the one you are getting says 60 days I would think you must be married within 60 days of getting the license otherwise it will be voided.

Best Wishes!

The license is only for 60 days because in some states there are blood tests done and so if you don't get married in the 60 days the tests won't be good anymore and you will have to redo everything again and re-apply.

All marriage licenses expire. You must use it before the end of the 60 days.

Yes, that is exactly what it means. You have 60 days to get married after recieving a license. So do not go out and get one unless you know that you will be married within those 60 days.

YES THAT IS IT YOU MUST BE MARRIED WITHIN THE PERIOD OF TIME OR YOU WILL HAVE TO GET ANOTHER LICENSE ISSUED TO YOU. I hope this helps your question. Most any license has a period of time before it becomes voided like a learners licence lasts usually a year then you would have to get another one if you had not gotten your drivers licence in the one year time frame.

If you do not get married within the specified time limit (before the expiration date), you would need to appy for (and pay the fees for) a new marriage license.

After the expiration date, you can trade the old wife in on a new one...kind of like a 60 day free look period. Or you can think of it as test driving a car, maybe you take it for a spin and realize it is a bit on the brown side of ripe...so after the expiration date, you trader her in on a new one...with low miles, and little or no wear on it.

Basically you need to actually get married by that date, or you have to apply for a new license.
