There is a lot of talk going on about it, and Arnold wants that, but no, I don't think we will. I am sure the Union would again fight against California's right to secede, like they did in the Civil War. I myself being born, raised, and living in California think it is a bad idea to leave the Union. I am an American before a Californian, and I won't turn my back on my country. California is not self-sufficient, and seceding will just cause more problems. I think Illegals will flock into California more than they do now, and we would end up in a war with Mexico again, them thinking that the USA will not back us, as we have become our own country. Also Arnold is apposed to deporting illegals, and may possibly want to give them amnesty. I am against that! We already have too many illegal aliens here, and it will become worse. No, California needs to stay with her country, not be her own. Arnie, sorry, but you will never be a president! (This may be in fact why he is so eager to split from the Union, because he wasn't born a US citizen, and cannot be elected president of the USA.)

I agree, California should secede and be better off. It has such a strong economy (the state has the 7th largest GDP in the world compared to other nations) and military presence (Navy and marines in San Diego), that I don't think it needs the rest of the United States. Clearly from most of the other answers, the rest of the United States doesn't think it needs California. Why not give it a shot? Both nations will do just fine on their own. Everyone will be happier.

Can we hope? Archie Bunker said that Cailfornia was waiting for two more fruitcakes to move there to float off into the ocean. Perhaps he was wrong. There's been an awful lot of fruitcakes headed that way since the 70's, I think it's time it just formed the great nation of California and Arnold can become president!

Secession isn't going to happen... Though I remember in the 1960's, 1980's when there has been discussion of breaking the STATE into two or three separate states.

Though as a Native-Californian, I wouldn't be too opposed to it !! Perhaps we could throw off the liberal shackles... deport all the illegal aliens, pare down our welfare rolls, and build a REAL danged fence on the southern border.

Personally, I would think much of the US would be happy... it would get Nancy Pelosi OUT of Congress !!

You cons are so funny. Did you know that there are conservative areas of CA? No really there are...try San Diego. Guess where Ronald Reagon came from? Guess where Richard Nixon came from? In recent histroy, CA has had more republican governors than democratic.

Ah, sweet dreams... but some republican Nazi like Dumbya or his Dick would fight it to death sending thousands of their 'Bama, Dakota & West Virginia inbred zombies as soldiers, because there'd be nobody to make money for the remaining states.

It's well past time for Commiefornia to be cut from the USA, so long as we secure the border there...
