Binocular vision refers to being able to look at a field of view with two (or both) eyes. Some animals (most notably things that get eaten a lot, like rabbits or many birds) have eyes more on the sides of their heads, so they can see a large field of view for anything that might be sneaking up to try to eat them. This means, though, that the areas they see with each eye don't overlap much, if at all. Many predators have eyes more towrd the front of their heads so the field of view of each eye overlaps a lot with the other. This binocular vision allows a better assesment of how far away something is, because each eye has a slightly different angle on the object and everything it is surrounded by. If you close one eye, everything looks 'flat'; it can be hard to get a feel for distance and relative position of things. Have both eyes open, though, and you get a '3-D' view.

Binocular vision is vision in which both eyes are used together. The word binocular comes from two Latin roots, bin for two, and oculus for eye. Having two eyes confers at least four advantages over having one. First, it gives a creature a spare eye in case one is damaged. Second, it gives a wider field of view. For example, a human has a horizontal field of view with one eye of about 150 degrees and with two eyes of about 180 degrees. Third, it gives binocular summation in which the ability to detect faint objects is enhanced. Fourth it can give stereopsis in which parallax provided by the two eyes' different positions on the head give precise depth perception. Such binocular vision is usually accompanied by singleness of vision or binocular fusion, in which a single image is seen despite each eye's having its own image of any object.

Other phenomena of binocular vision include utrocular discrimination, eye dominance, allelotropia, and binocular rivalry.

BINOCULAR VISION(STEREOSCOPIC VISION)
all monkeys/apes and particularly humans have the capacity to perceive depth or the relative distance of the objects .this is made possible due to simultaneous focussing of an object in both eyes, and their images by a kind of overlapping in the brain give this three dimensional effect.this is called binocular vision

If your left eye turns in when you fixate objects more than 10 meters, it would be expected that it would turn in even more for near objects. How do you know that you do not have binocular vision? A smart Optometrist can correct this in a most surprising manner.

Everyone who has two working eyes has binocular vision. I have amblyopia (lazy eye), so I don't.

Everybody has it. It means you have two eyes and can perceive depth (how far things are away).
