if the bone is infected, then yes. Depends on how deep. I would definately consider going through with it. Have they put you on a wide-spectrum antibiotic? I'm not big in to that, but it's more conservative than abridgement surgery.

Good luck

My mother had a non healing wound on her back following a surgery in which the hardware became infected. Her wounds did not heal for nearly 2 years. The way they were finally able to get the wounds to heal was to remove the instrumentation because it was badly infected and resulted in OSTEOMYELITIS (infection of the bone). They tried many times with surgeries but the only thing that worked (she is completely healed now) was to debride the wound in the operating room (remove unhealthy/necrotic tissue), NOT suture the wound shut, and apply a wound vac until the wound closed. The doctor that accomplished this miracle was Dr. Friedrich at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Please don't hesitate to set up an appointment with him. He is amazing.

Why would they take out bone? To my knowledge bones dont usually become infected. Sounds nasty though hope you get it sorted out.
