Carnegie Mellon is a very, very strong school, and their engineering and computer science programs rank among the best in the world. Their computer science programs are especially strong - definately top 5-10 in the US.

Texas A&M is also very strong, but ranks below CM. Still, in many engineering fields, it's in the top 30 in the US for engineering.

But which do you think is a better fit for you? And are you instate Texas? If so, you'll get a great education at Texas A&M at a relatively low cost, due to the in-state tuition discount. That alone would make this school a strong contender.

Texas A&M is an awesome school. The Dwight Look School of engineering is very well known, and very hard to get into. I have some friends who graduated from that school. One has a Mechanical Engineering Degree. He now works in Houston and makes about $45,000 his first year. Another one of my friends received a degree in Chemical Engineering, he started at $56,000, and got a $4,000 sign on bonus.

All in all, I would say A&M is a better school, because of the tradition and aggie network. The aggienetwork works wonders when you want to start a career, or just find a new job.

You will have to decide your major on your own. As for the school -- Carnegie Mellon is better in both fields.

You can easily find this information yourself. Go on each school's web site. It will show if applications for Fall 2012 are still open. I highly doubt it for these schools. but check for yourself to make sure You will not have your SAT results back in time. School starts mid August. Your results are not going to be back for 4/6 weeks after you take the exam. You can send in your applications, and then send in your results when you get them. but the schools will not review your application until all documentation is in. IF the deadline date has passed, you will need to apply for next Fall 2013. OR find a school that will take you this late. You would still need to apply for a student visa after you are accepted. Don't know how much time that takes.

CMU is far better for both.

Without a doubt. Don't even take a second thought.

but you should visit both if you haven't already and go where you would feel better living. because it doesn't matter how "good" the school is if you don't like the place.
