just recently bought ford mondeo zetec y reg the car is making knocking sound at back end dont know if its wheels or axel or suspention only happens when going over rough ground or speed bumps what is it and is it serious also how much to repair.

take the body out of the trunk
its probably just the suspension - usually the mounts will chatter when worn not an expensive fix - unless they find the body

It sounds like you have a suspension problem. I would look at the shock mounts. (the rubber that the bolt goes through) This could be missing. Bushings on the pivot points of the rear end or the springs. The shocks could be bad also. Go to the back of the vehicle and have someone step on the bumper and you look under the vehicle and see if you can determine where it is coming from.

Raise the rear of the vehicle & place on jack stands so the weight of the vehicle is on the suspension.

Shake the shocks, exhaust, & struts. Look for contact marks on the body or suspension.

maybe its a loose shock,or strut.check all the back bushings,to see if they are worn out.
