If it's a head gasket on a Quad4 motor, you will be looking at 1.5 to 2K as long as there are no metal parts cracked or broken. If this is a V-6, it will run about the same. For brakes, rotors are generally about a hun each and pads anywhere from 50 to 120 for a set. Get a good set of pads as these are a weak point in GM cars.

I can install new pads and rotors at my shop for about $120-$135 per axle. But the head gasket may end up costing a fortune. Knowing what engine you have may help a little, but without taking the cylinder head/s off and having them pressure tested, and checked for warpeded-ness, you will never know. If you just bought it, I will bet any money that they sold the car at the first sign of head gasket failure.

Try a Fix it shop. There are lots of questions to answer before someone can answer you like: Engine size, two door or four door, etc.
I can tell you if it is the V6 your probably toast. Htey had lots of head and gasket problems and fixing them.... Let me put it this way it was cheeper to swap the engine except the replacement could develop the same problems a year later.

its either a head gasket, or a Lower Intake Manifold (LIM) gasket. both are known for failing on the v6 engines around 75,000 miles. i'd say it would be about 800 - 1200 dollars. go to a good local shop that guarntees there work. dont take it to a dealership. also have them look at the brakes.

good luck

I wish I could help but I have always driven brand new cars in my Ghetto neighborhood and therefore I never have to deal with old cars!
