This is really a semantic (rather than substantive) question. According to Hebrew tradition, a new day starts at sunset.
More specifically, the Sabbath begins at sundown on Friday (Friday is called the Prepration day - work could be done on this day but not the Sabbath, so all 'preparations' must be made before sunset on Friday) and ends with the following sunset. According to the biblical record, Jesus died around the 9th hour on Friday (see Matt 27:45-50) and was placed somewhat hurredly into a tomb by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus (see John 19:38-42) because of the impending Sabbath. On Saturday a guard was placed at the tomb by Pilate at the request of the chief priests and Pharisees (see Matt 27:62-66) but at dawn the next day - Sunday - the earth quaked, the stone was rolled away, and Jesus arose from the dead (see Matt 28:1-8).
By the reckoning of that day, hours were counted from sunrise, so it can be estimated that Jesus died around 5 pm on Good Friday and rose from the dead around 7 am on Sunday (assuming sunrise to be around 7 am). So, counting the hours you are correct that Jesus was only dead for about 38 hours. However, because of the timing of the events, that 38 hour period spanned the last 2 hours of Friday, all of Saturday, and the first 12 hours of Sunday. This is three days.
The more important question is: do you believe?
"Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call." (Acts 2:36-39)

he celebrated the Passover ( the last supper), was betrayed that night, was tried, sentenced and crucified on Friday. the body was removed before sundown, remained entombed over the Sabbath and was found risen on the first day of the week (Sunday). By Jewish accounting, he died on Friday, Day 1, lay entombed over the Sabbath Day 2 and rose up on Sunday, day 3

No, Fridays is considered the first day, because that's the day he ws crucified. Then, Saturday is the second day and Sunday, the day he rose, would be the third day.

Easter. The word evidently comes from Ostara, the Scandinavian goddess of spring. She was the symbol of the resurrection of all nature and was worshipped in early spring. It was a custom with the pagan Norsemen at that time to exchange coloured eggs called the eggs of Ostara. These have now become Easter-Eggs. As expressed in Asgard and the Gods: “Christianity put another meaning on the old custom, by connecting it with the feast of the Resurrection of the Saviour, who, like the hidden life in the egg, slept in the grave for three days before he awakened to new life”. This was the more natural since Christ was identified with that same Spring Sun which awakens in all his glory, after the dreary and long death of winter.

it extremely is thoroughly as a lot as you, i'm Catholic or perhaps if we devour meat on Easter Friday it extremely is robust Friday, also properly-called Black Friday and many different issues, relies upon the way you've been raised and how strongly the traditions were instilled in you. in case you sense in charge ingesting meat, or beef do not devour it, ! no longer a lot of a sacrifice in some unspecified time sooner or later of the 12 months human beings !

He was crucified on Thursday, which is why churches all over the world have Maundy Thursday services. The services are very solemn - some last all day long, with a bell tolling each hour to mark the passing of time he spent on the cross & prayers offered up each hour for mercy. The most memorable Maundy Thursday service I went to ended with the pastor stating "Christ is dead. Go from this church & do not speak, for we are in deepest mourning." It really left an impression on me - all of the people leaving in absolute silence, some with tears in their eyes. Hope this info helps clear up your confusion......oh, and Happy Easter!
