Sounds interesting. Supposedly the Mayan calendar ends on December 22, 2012 and that is supposed to be the end of the world or our civilization. I mean I wouldn't worry about it but it does seem interesting. Sometimes those spiritual types know things that we think they don't. Looking for input on what you think about it all or does anyone care.

It's not going to be the end of the world. It's not going to be apocalyptic disasters and comets hitting earth and such.
Most people agree that what MIGHT happen in 2012 is something like a revelation. Apocalypse, from teh greek Apocalypsis, means :lifting of the veil.
In other words, Apocalypse is a sort of uncovering....revelation.
Perhaps something will be revealed to us in 2012? Aliens will make conctact? We'll be shown that we're not alone in the universe? Or even crazier....the president will reeval himself as an alien and will enslave the whole of the human population.
Some say the oil left on Earth will disappear, altering our minds towards renewable energies and spending more money on other things other than oil companies.
Some even say that what is supposed to happen in 2012 will happen in 2007, because of some confusion with the gregorian calendar. In November.
You should really look into this subject if you're interested, it is quite entertaining and makes you think.
BUT Don'tforget, these are only thoughts that people have....not a single thing that you read is a premonition or a vision of the future. Do not take it SERIOUSLY.
But, c'mon! making mankind finally aware that they're not alone in the universe would surely be a good step towards our intellectual and spiritual evolution!

Well I believe that the Mayans where more intuned with the earth than any other premitive culture, I mean they actually created a calendar around the seasons. Although we take it for granted today it was pretty impressive then. So I think that on 2012 we will have a polar shift and that we will have some natural disasters but civilization will not end, man has been around too long to just sit back and wait for the end. Although Global Warming might slowly do the job!

The Mayan calendar does not really end on that date. But even if it did, why should I care how a long gone civilization counted the days? They didn't even have weekends!

Here is a quote from the souorce:

According to the Maya, there will be a baktun ending in 2012, a significant event being the end of the 13th 400 year period, but not the end of the world.

You have it wrong. Th Mayan calendar for the OLD era runs out then and the New era starts. They has such great sight of the future that they didn't realize their civilization wold go belly up long before that. My Barnes and Noble calendar ends in Feb 2008. Could that be the real end of the world ?

It is interesting, but we'll never know. I'm not sure when they were building their calendar, but I have a couple of ideas:

1 - It's a perpetual calendar. When you get to 12/23/13, you go back to the beginning.

2 - They may have been predicting their own demise, not necessarily the demise of all mankind all over the world.

Good question Puleeze! The Bible teaches that only God the Father knows the day and hour of the end of time. This is my confidence. However, if such things as the end of the Mayan calendar bring people to think about their own end then I would say that opens a door for Christians. For we offer all people, no matter who they are, no matter what their station in life may be, no matter how bad a life they have lived, how ashamed they may be of themselves, no matter how they have hurt others, a life of hope in a God that is Love - a God that wants them to be reconciled with himself for all eternity.

The Mayans were believers in human sacrifice. I have visited their temples in the Yucatan and read about their wickedness. I would not be one bit concerned about their astrological and astronomical achievments other than they were developed for the same reasons as those of the Babylonians who built the tower of Babel which in the words of the Bible tells it all "Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the earth".

Personally I think that the world has seen enough end-of-world predictions. I don't put much weight in ancient mythologies (including christian mythology such as the book of revelations) so I don't see it happening. Show me scientifically-validated evidence of such and I might care, but don't waste my time with "evidence" written on some stone tablet by bronze-age tribesmen.

If I had a dollar for every time some person or group said the world was going to end I would be rich.
