PPl who's dogs died are only getting their vet bill paid and maybe the value of the dog. Under the law you can't receive punitive damages. Do you think this is right? Alot of ppl consider their pet family? Should the owners of dead pets get more?

Even though I like our dogs and cats very much, it will open up more opportunities for law suits and lawyers. I'm against it for this very reason.

My friend, it is true of what the others have said about the law, etc...I hold absolutely NO DISRESPECT for their opinion, but America unfortunately is "sue happy" in the first place. As an animal rights activist, I can tell you that many states have made the jail time for abusers/murderers of our beloved animals form 5 years to 10 years...I am a member of various Human and Animal rights groups trying to help people like yourself and others with this very situation.

I have 2 cats of my own and have many family member and friends whom feel their pets are their children and family just as a human child or family member is...I totally agree that a animal, cat, dog, pig, etc...whatever the loved family member may be even though it is an animal is not a lesser species and should not be seen as property. I am not sure if you are familiar with the fact that women were considered property when a man "aquired" her hand in marriage and her dowry given by her very parents...That has changed, thank goodness!! I hope together we can bring change to the stigma that our beloved pets are family and deserve rights also, not just vet bills paid and a price for their "so called value"....We need more to have proper honoring of them when they pass...We grieve them as much as we grieve our human family members!!

They are considered more than property. You can get more jail time from beating a pet that you can a child in the same regards.
