I recently had to tell my 10 year old daughter where babies come from because I am expecting and She had alot of questions.I told her that a man and a women have alot of kissing naked ,and their body parts touch, then some fluid is exchanged and that fluid turns into into a beautiful baby.I told her that as long as she doesn't kiss any boys naked, she will have nothing to worry about.Of course this is a extremely sugar coated story, but I felt she was still a little young to know all the details.

My son is 8, and when I got pregnant with my daughter (I'm still pregnant, by the way... It feels like it will NEVER end), he asked, "Mommy, where do babies come from?"
I figured that it was best to tell him the truth, sans the gory details (that NO kid wants to visualize his or her parents doing). I told him that when two people love each other, they get married. Once they are married, they sleep in the same bed. Sometimes, they "wrestle", and that can make a baby.
The word "sex" is not a word that we use, yet. As soon as he asks, though, I'll tell him.

He's 8, he may just already know. Schools in my area are showing "the video" to 9 year olds (about the 3rd grade) now.
Teaching them about puberty and educating on sex.
Go out and buy a video for him to watch if that question pops up. I'm not sure where to get them, you may find them on the net or ask a nearby school.

Let him ask you. But be prepared to answer, just honestly tell him or get a book . I believe there is a book called Where do babies come from or something along the lines of that.

Talk to the mother if she is in the picture. Discuss it with your husband also. I would let the child know the moment he asked me. I have 4 children ranging in age from 30 y/o to 12 y/o. The moment they asked me I told them. It is better to hear it from their mother and father than to get misinformation and the smutty side of it from the streets. The sooner you start talking to your children, explaining things to them as if they are humans instead of all these fairy tales of the stork, they will be better able to understand life.

I note that you are stepmom, and I am torn between "better let birth parents handle" to stop birth mother getting upset, and "just answer naturally and honestly when asked" so that it doesn't seem too big a thing for him. Maybe the safest course would be just to phone his mother, and say you think he is going to ask ... does she agree that you should just answer naturally. With luck she is a sensible woman who will say yes, and your position is simpler.

When he asks a question, answer it and leave it at that. You don't need to go into more detail than his question requires, but be open and honest. I find that a little information spread out over a longer period of time is better than one big "talk".

There are actually lots of good children's level books on the subject. I suggest going to your local library and seeing what you can find.
Much better that you, the parent, explain things than someone else.
