The "Service Engine Soon" light is ONLY A REMINDER that a recommended routine maintenance is needed. When you get your engine serviced, ask the mechanic to reset the light for you or look in your owners manual for the reset sequence. Some GM's are simply turn the ignition to on, not started, press the accelerator pedal 3 times in 5 seconds, and the light will reset. If it's the "Check Engine" light, some codes will clear after the problem is fixed and the computer has gone through a drive cycle. You can use a scan tool to erase the codes to turn this light off, but if the problem still exists, it will turn back on.

You need to get a scanning tool. made by Ac-tron from any auto parts store. But you need to find out what's going on before you just reset the light. There could be something that might be wrecking your fuel economy or emissions. You could also unplug the battery, but this would mean that your stereo might need to be reset, and this is a royal pain. My wife has a Grand Am, and she loves it.

i love grand ams, i just got a 99 gt, it needs some work but i am excited to do it, my servic engine light is on too, sorry i didnt answer ur question. i dont think u can reset, unless u buy a diagnostics machine and erase the code, but it will come back on after a few days, people do that to pass e-check, maybe it is on for a reason

You mean turn it off. You have to either fix what the PCM has found as faulty and it will keep rechecking and turn it off by itself or get the code scanned and cleared by using a Tech 2 scanner at the dealership or an auto parts store. Just clearing codes does not fix the problem so it will come back unless you just left the gas cap loose. Good luck.

There are two ways I know of that you can do this.
1. Go to your local state emissions center, and they will plug in a scanner and do it free. They will check out your engine too, and tell you what you need fixed and if your car is up to emissions.
2. Go to your local auto parts store and look for a code scanner for your model. Make sure you look around on the package, because most of them say in bold font something like,"find out why your check engine light is on and get rid of it".

I hoped this helped you. Good luck!

You will have to have it scanned. When the new part is installed, the computer will erase the fault code and the light will go out on its own. You can get a fault scanner at Auto Zone, at relatively reasonable price.
generally emissions related parts are not that hard to change.

obd2 scan tool only or if you have an Auto Zone in your area they can give you the trouble code and reset it for you. if the light is on, you have a problem that needs to be repaired and the light will just come on again.

sometimes you have the stupid thing come on and never goes off, but there is one thing you can try, open your hood up and disconnect the "NEG" battery cable for about 5 - 10 min. that will reset the whole computor on the car, it just might make it stay off untill next time around, take care good luck

you can reset the light on your car and almost every car made with the light by unhooking the battery for a few minutes then hook it back up. the problem is if there is a problem the light will just come back on.
