I'm Christian and come from a Christian background and no one in my family has ever said it's bad to read about magic. Reading and doing what's in the book are two completely different things. I can't stand how a lot of people are against the Harry Potter series because of that. It's funny you never hear them raising hell about any of the hundreds of other fantasy story books out there.

The iciness solstice, December 21, is a pagan trip, yet actual that's merely coincidence that the flicks got here out around that day. in case you fairly get all the way down to it, any day would desire to be on or close to a pagan trip. There are 8 i will call off the right of my head, and that i'm no longer even pagan. The date for Christmas does come from a pagan (Zoroastrian) custom familiar as Shabe Yalda. This replaced into the night celebrated because of the fact the beginning of Mithra, and traditionally fell on December 21, regardless of the undeniable fact that by potential of the early centuries advert via vagaries interior the calendar it had replaced to December 25.

Magic and the supernatural go against the basic tenet of christian faith, namely that there is one God. To believe that things happen "supernaturally" implies that there is some other "entity" or "force" or "energy" or even another divine being causing these things to happen. That goes directly against the first commandment.
If you are reading it for enjoyment, there probably is nothing wrong with that. However, in general, it is discouraged because of the temptation that it brings about; some may be swayed by what they read and will turn against their christian beliefs. A (recovering) alcoholic aviods going to the bar because of the temptation to start drinking again. That doesn't mean that there is something "bad" about the bar, it just means that the temptation to start drinking again is too great.
Many people think that christians are close-minded to other ideas, such as this and bash christians for it. I say the christian faith is what it is and you can take it or leave it. Those that do not agree with it are free to leave the church and think what they wish.

I find it curious that the Bible instills a fear of openmindedness and curiosity. I think the reason for this is to have people be against anything that isn't in the Bible. That helps insure a good following. I guess if everyone were to strive for acceptance and knowledge and love, there would be no wars ever. We can't have that now can we?
Your reading a book is all. It doesn't define your spirit. It isn't opening your mind to evil, and violence, and deviance. It is a book. Enjoy it and make sure you get it back to the library in time to avoind any fines. :)

The simple answer is.... It ISN'T!!!!
I'm a Methodist Christian, and I even PERFORM White Magick. This is not against my religion, as it has no intent to harm!
It is like saying one should not read a "Harry Potter" book because one is Christian, as it would be condoning magick. In fact, this isn't the case. You can read about what you like ^_^
Those who say it goes against the Bible are misdirected. The Bible warns against the temptings of Magick that will harm us, cause others harm, or deter from the teachings of God. But if you are already living within God's laws- then it's okay to learn about other religions and practices. as part of my training, I have studied the Wiccan, Pagan, and even Satanic ways- but that doesn't mean I follow them. To not have studied what they believe to be would have led to ignorance on my part. And ignorance would also be against the teachings in the Bible.
So to round off, there isn't anything wrong with reading about it- or even practicing it if you know that magick is just manipulation of energies and nothing more- but you must be wise of what you choose to do and what you don't. As it may go against Biblical teachings to do certain things.
In love and light, Tasha x

Ok, let me stop laughin' at the crazy girl who said thinking is for the devil. If no one EVER thought we'd all still be cavemen! HAHAHA! Ahh, see some people are naturally crazy without reading about magic! First of all, I am a christian and it is NOT a sin or a bad thing to educate yourself. There is no punishment for it and if someone you know has a problem with it then too bad for them! You are your own person and if you let people tell you how to live your life all the time then you'll never be in charge of your future! I've read many different books on magic and never felt guilty because the only one who can judge me is above me and I know he would never punish me for wanting to learn everything I can about the world I live in. Don't listen to religious FREAKS who think pooping is a sin! God loves you and he will forgive your sins if you ask. Learn babey learn as much as you can while you can! Never let your mind go to waste!

i'm a devout Catholic (and by devout i mean i come from a STRICT Catholic family and community), and i don't think there's anything wrong with reading about magic and mythology and the like. i actually find that constraint pretty fundamentalist and narrow-minded. Christians should develop a strong, well-informed and critical-minded faith, and shutting out everything else does not benefit us in this regard.

I'm a Christian and my favorite thing to read is fantasy and magic. I see no problem with it if you don't practice it. But some think it is like demonic.

It depends on who you are asking. Some don't see any harm in reading about other ideas, while others do. Those who do see harm in it, are afraid that reading about such things will pull you away from the Christ, or "convert " you to another way of thinking, they can't see that it can also increase your appreciation of what you have in your spiritual path, and help you to clarify and strengthen your beliefs.
