When my mother passed away, my father gave me a bunch of stuff that she had kept from my childhood, included was my baby book. That is probably my most cherished.

The most cherished gift I ever received was a letter with a picture from the first child we adopted. He was living with us as a foster child and unavailable for adoption at that time but we got everything in place just in case and about 2 years later, his dream came true. The letter was asking if we could be his mom and dad and he had drawn a picture of himself included in the family. We have since lost him to cancer but I have the letter with the picture framed to remember him.

The first glimpse of my first child; my daughter. I was in Laos when she was born, and my wife sent me a black and white photo when she was about 5-minutes old. I thought she was ugly. But, when I got home a couple months late, and saw her...........she was actually about the most beautiful baby that ever lived; 5 lb 5 oz, put the only baby in the maternity ward not in an incubator. Soon she could walk under the table without bending over or bumping her head.

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:
Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!
The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.
Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.
Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

A few years back my boyfriend of the time bought me an enormous South African flag while the rugby world cup was on. It meant that much because we were bitter rivals over the rugby, he's English. I had seen it and really wanted it but had no money, he got it for me the next day while I was at work! Bless him!

The gift of my friend allowing me to let go of my guilt when I wasn't there to save his life. I felt horribly guilty that I wasn't onscene when someone tried to kill him and he had to fight the man and end up shooting him without my help.
I had terrible guilt about that, I just knew I should've had ESP and been there sooner. I arrived 60 seconds after it had gone down.
He told me that he knew I wanted to be there and he would've felt the same way if I had been the first one onscene. I finally forgave myself for not being there in time after he talked it over with me. He reallly is a great friend and one of the few things I miss about leaving police work.

My husband gave me a porcelain bride doll when we first met. 17 years ago. I had known him 2 weeks, and he got me a doll for my collection. I have family members that would pull their hair out over what to get me as a gift, but this man knew me and what I liked after knowing me for so short a time.
