I was a 2+ pack a day person. Hypnosis did the trick for me. Walked into the session smoking. Never smoked again after - amazing. It's been 26 years now. good luck!

Smoking is mostly a habit. Have you noticed that certain thing during the day trigger the need for a puff? I went on a vacation where nothing was the same as my everyday life and I quit during that period of time. It has been 3 years and I still get the feeling of wanting one but I have resisted so far.

It's really all up to you. You have to WANT to quit bad enough. 2 packs a day? It will be almost impossible to go from that to nothing and hope to stay off of them. Start weening yourself down. Have one less cigarette every day. If you really don't want to quit or if you are quitting to make someone else happy, it will never work. You have to do it for you. It was the hardest thing I ever did. And I did "relapse" a few times, but it's been 6+ years since my last one.

I did it Cold Turkey and will power. Smoked for 20yrs. It's been 4 years since my last one. Set a date, smoke your last one, trow out all your lighters, matches and ashtrays. The first week is the hardest. The nicotine will be out of your system in about 3 days. Then it's just the oral fixation you need to curb. I used pens and straws. I still use toothpicks all the time. It's still a little gross but it sure is a lot healthier and cheaper. Good luck. Don't give up. It will be worth it.

Well, my husband just quit 2 months ago when our son was born. He is on step two of the three step patches now, he says he doesn't feel any better and still has dreams of smoking, but he is just sticking with it. You just need to give it a few months. its gonna suck but after your body isnt craving it you'll be happy you stuck it out.
BTW did Welbutrin help u lose weight?

It took me two years to completely quit... One of the best things I did: break the habit and keep smoking at first. ]
For example, try only smoking every other hour for a week (like only smoke from 1pm to 2pm, then don't from 2pm-3pm, then smoke from 3pm-4pm, etc)
Then the next week, try only smoking every second hour, like smoke from 1pm to 2pm, don't from 2pm-4pm, then ok from 4pm-5pm, etc)
Then maybe the next week, don't have a cigarette before noon, then smoke all you want for the rest of the day.
Maybe the following week, try only smoking at home.
The idea is to train yourself to go for longer periods of time without smoking, and to break the habits... like if you don't smoke until noon, you have to skip the post breakfast/coffee cigs... and yet not depriving yourself of smoking YET... and gradually you can stretch it out and quit completely WHEN YOU ARE READY. No pressure, no strict deadline... you're kind of waltzing your way to quitting...
This method, even if you take two years to quit, slowly re-trains you.
I was a 2-3 pack a day smoker... 18 years ago!

I commend u for wanting to quit and for your efforts so far. U seem sincere about it. Perhaps u can do something non-standard - go to the hospital and try to see people who are being treated for emphysema and lung cancer. That sort of thing will get u thinking about how things will be if u don't quit.

You have to tell yourself that you can do it. Take it one day at a time. Each day will get easier. Try to avoid places where people are smoking and do not allow smoking in your home.
I used smoke-enders pills for about 2 weeks.
