If it *is* illegal, why has the UN taken no action against the United States. Furthermore, if the war is illegal, and the UN has taken zero action, what does this say about the relevance of the UN?

And, if the war in Iraq violates international law, and these international laws are not enforced, then what good are they and what's the point of even having them?

NO not Illegal
Think now and name just 1 thing the UN has done for the betterment of the world, just 1 thing.
I knew you couldn't think of 1 thing the UN has done good
The UN is useless and corrupt and the USA should get out

Illegal according to what Country? America ? American Constitutional law does not include ANYTHING that could be interpreted as a prohibition on the Iraq war. The U.N. perhaps? Well, there is a problem since the U.N. resolution ruled in favor of the war though many countries decided not to support it for various reasons. Illegal by some universal human ethical code? There is room to argue the war's legitimacy here though this is kind of a difficult area. Can people hold up any kind of standard for human action which some nations must follow even while other nations disregard even the most basic human rights ?
Does one country EVER have the right or responsibility to involve itself in another country? Who can decide this ? One thing is certain , the U.N. is not going to be the best voice to decide because of the imbalanced financial support through mostly U.S. funding combined with it's total inaction to take care of anything it decides to do.The U.N. should be dissolved since it can't resolve a single thing. Then individual Countries can debate their own responsibility to others.

Is not an illegal war, the only mistake and faults in this war lies on the military abilities to restore peace and stability to iraqs after the war. I feel sad for US Soldier, wasted their time there but not getting appreciation from the international. Should have assasine saddam, this can save alot of $$$ and alot of innocent life. Most important, save a lot of trouble explaining to the world.

It is amazing to see all these international lawyers on Yahoo! Some say the war is legal others claiming it is illegal!
When it started Congress declared it legal, The U.N. declared it legal.
When the A.D.D. (Attention Deficit Disorder) group lost interest, it became illegal. Monday it was legal but because some have lost interest in it, it is now illegal.

The war is not illegal, but it should have been instigated by the UN. If they had any backbone, they would have taken Saddam to account for not adhering to the guidelines given to him by them. The UN is basically useless and should be abolished.

Amazing! I think one person, so far, has answered yes.
The reason for this is obvious.
It's not officially a "war". It was never declared.
Congress handed the power to the President.
The Constitution calls for Congress to make this decision.
So everyones is technically correct that it appears legal.
But it is unconstitutional. Which is the 'Supreme Law of the Land'.

No for 2 reasons. Iraq had violated many UN resolutions, and the US Senate authorized it.

The US would ignore any action by the UN (look at Dubya's guy in the UN - John Bolton - he's 100% GOP lapdog material).
To say they've taken 'zero action' just shows how ignorant you are. The rest of the world knows whats going on - it'll just be a matter of time before it sinks in here.
