I've only been through there twice. Seemed very quiet. I'm sort of poor, too.

Check the web for "Second home" programs offerd by many countries around the world. For example, Phillippines, Malaysia, Thailand Indonesia all have second home programs. Wth the US dollar you can actually double or triple your money. For example in Thailand and Malaysia, you get double the money. In Phillippines, its 4 times. In Indonesia its 6 times. You can choose a place where you will not miss the good life you are accustomesd to in the US. There are thousands of Americans and europeans living in Thailand and Malaysia . Phil. is a Catholic country. Thousands there too. I have 2 friends - one from Holland and the other Austrian living on the beach in Malaysia.

I have been to WV a couple of times, and I really enjoyed it. Most of my time was spent in the hilly area. Near Marlington, I discovered a wild plant called Ramps that grow wild in the Spring in the mountains. The people there were very friendly. About being "poor--" I think that WV has a wide range of income levels. I can see living there on a fairly small income.

My relatives are actually planning a move to West VA this summer to retire there. Apparently it's really cheap living, but jobs are hard to come by unless you're a coal-miner or something. It is really quiet, but if you want cheap property and a relaxing retirement I guess that would be the way to go. : )
