It is true.
When you have to get a job and earn enough money to pay for rent, car, electric bills, gasoline, phone bills, groceries, etc.....you realize how fast your money disappears.
Your parents are right!

The grown ups are telling you this so that you will have a realistic idea of what adulthood would be like. There would be bills to pay and co-workers to deal with.
You would realize that going to college would be a very helpful way to make your life a lot easier because most jobs requires you to have one and pays you a lot more than minimum wage.
Even with more responsibilities, you only have one life to live so remember to enjoy your life and take a trip to disneyland if you want to and pay it with your savings and not by credit.
Whatever you want in life you can get it, as long as you work hard and save for it. Do not be fooled thinking that you can use your credit card without needing your own money. This will make your life very miserable.
I wish you the best.

Our culture is very money driven. Travel the world and you will see how self centred and materialistic we are.
It is a choice. Many people in my social circle put their family (love) before money.
One thing you should keep in mind as you grow up is that you will find love someday, have a family, get a job. Contrary to what you read in 'answers', most people are happy with their love and family, but want a different job or more money. Job and money puts a continual stress on them and that might be why they tell you that.
You are the only one that controls your happiness. Surround yourself with happy people. If you keep a journal, write about something good that happened every day. If you watch the news, read the questions on this board, watch stupid talk shows you will brain wash yourself into thinking that life is depressing and nothing good ever happens.
It is all up to you (no pressure there)
Cheers

It depends on the person. I'd pick love any day, but then I've grown up in affluent surroundings and have never known what' it's like to have no money, or being poor. I've only heard love is magical, and how you have to study hard and you'll earn the money. So that may be my reason.
Another person might decide love doesn't feel your stomach and pick money

That's terrible.
Love is what helps you when you're stretching to pay your mortgage. Love keeps your spirits bolstered when you realize you have to turn down the thermostat in the winter because your heating bills are too high.
You get yourself financially independent so that you can stand on your own two feet... and then the rest of life is the search for and enjoyment of the love of a partner and family and friends. Money may help make you happy, but it's hard for it to do so on its own.

Well, financial problems ARE the cause for many divorces.
I would say that even more important is the need for a good understanding of how you and your partner feel about money - where you place your financial values, the importance of savings, debt, etc. before entering into a committed relationship, because if you have common financial values and goals, then money is much less of an issue. For example, if you are a spend-thrift and your partner is a spend-aholic, you are certainly headed for dissatisfaction, and vice-versa.

Yeah, sort of. Your money is easier to protect so its kind of more worth working for. You won't find many love interests that are really safe to call yours anymore and any effort you put into it maybe be dashd in an instant.
Besides, love won't get you anywhere near money. With money you can buy the closest thing to love that we'll ever know.

As human beings, we have made it very difficult to live in modern society without money. It is needed if you intend on having a lot of material things.
But ultimately, love (and I'm not talking about sex) is the most important to any human. Just look at those who have money by the bucket full and lead such pitiful lives. Its love they lack.

Life is balance. Love is a wonderful thing. But you can choose who you put yourself in a place to love. You know that, if you want to make a family, you must have enough money to keep them safe and warm. So, dating men who won't work hard to help you do that is not a smart thing to do. If you date men who would be a good candidate for marriage, then, when you fall in love with one, it will be a no-brainer. Believe me, it will save you a lot of pain!

In most cases it is true, in life you need money just to get by in life. You need a steady job in order to get paid money so you can:
1. Pay bills for electricity, gas, water etc.
2. Pay for groceries
3. Pay for things to go into your household, like furniture, decór etc.
~ and also ~
4. To save money up for anything wheather it will be vacations, a new car, new home etc.
Money is the key essential to everything, you can't get by with nothing these days. :)
