The most recent riot occurred on February 2, 2007.
Violence caused by rioters and hooligans led to the death of an Italian police officer, and football in Italy has been canceled for a week, even withdrawing the national team from a friendly match with Romania scheduled the week after. L'Osservatore Romano, the Vatican newspaper, had a headline in its front-page editorial section that read "Italian football died last night".
Making sure there's more security in the stadiums, playing behind closed doors just a few to mention...what more do you want them to do?

Its really unfortunate that even such a drastic action hasn't worked. I think that if we want to put an end to all of this violence, we can't just blame the Italian gov't and leave them to do everything, even the fans must have some common sense as well and go their with a purpose to enjoy the game but not to ruin it for everyone else. And also like Andygurl said, screening procedures will help significantly.
Its really terrible that there are some people who just choose to ruin the game for everyone. But accusing Italy of not doing anything about the violence is totally wrong. Its very easy to criticize Italy and insult them, but what would any other country have done in their place? They definitely do not deserve all of this crap, people have to realize that the Italian gov't is doing everything they can!

They can start Juventina by admitting the problem solving attempts have not worked. They can start by making sure the security forces do their job and make sure all fans at matches are dealt with fairly. not selectively. When the Liverpool drama occurred all English teams were exiled from all European competition and Liverpool received an extended two year ban. People here can list links to violence relating to England and others will be able to post links to Italian violence in football, and other nations that rival that. It is becoming endemic. They can also put screening procedures in place Juventina that prevent these missile items from even getting into the Stadiums. There is a lot that can be done but first they have to truly admit there is a problem.

Well one thing's for sure: banning fans from attending footy games wasn't the best idea! Violence is gonna continue forever, whether we like it or not. As we all know, we aren't living in a celestial world. So as long as people exist, violence and hooliganism will as well. There are ways to control it, but never stop it.

It's sad because a lot of the time, the footballers aren't even part of this racism.. and theyre just there to play, but the fans have to ruin everything!
woah. ''italian football died last night''? thats powerful..
why should people keep dying for this? if its gonna be this way then its time to shut it down until people can come to terms with the fact that killing people because of anger or ''fandom'' isnt right.

in spite of if I dislike the English while it includes footballing concerns, you may desire to confess the ideal way they have dealt with hooliganism and violence of their stadiums (a minimum of of their kinfolk contributors leagues in the final 20 years) has been very effective. i think of its in basic terms a case of adopting the English way (extra stewards rather of Policemen, extra primary jobs given to the club on tournament days, stricter penatlies on disobedient followers and so on). i in my view think of that the violence in Italy isn't as undesirable because it strengthen into in England 20 years, yet it truly is all the extra motives to start appearing now and taking the needed steps to cut back down violence and instruct the followers of the next day.

"what more do you want them to do?"
Keeping those felons behind bars would do the trick. This way they would not become repeat offenders. Not giving these felons "a get out of jail free card" would be helpful. Stop looking for politically correct ways to treat prisoners would also do the trick.
