How did they change the cities? The life of men and women in the cities? If someone could help me out with this question, I would appreciate it.

The very first skyscraper was built in Chicago, IL in 1885.
It was the Home Insurance Building, designed by William LeBaron Jenney.

Skyscrapers altered business culture, because they allowed businesses to consolidate all of their operations in one large structure. The new building technology was a factor in the rise of large corporations in the 1890s and early part of the 20th century.

If you want to see how skyscrapers altered modern life, I would suggest looking at the development of Chicago between 1880 and 1910. It had more skyscrapers than any city in the world during that period, including New York.

Skyscrapers didn't appear on the city skyline until the 20th century.
In the 18th century (1700-1799) the church steeple was most prominent on city skylines.
In the 19th century (1800-1899) it was the warehouse.
In the 20th century (1900-1999) it was the skyscraper.
What do you suppose it will be in the 21st century
(2000-2099)?

It wasn't until the invention of the elevator (Otis) that it was possible to really begin to build upwards, beyond a few stories.
