You can make all kind of sun catchers,a nice one is if you take large see threw glass beads, clear beads will collect colors from the area around and with a little fishing string and a small frame, (they come in all shapes) but you can make your own with wire or clay. Hang from a glass door or window or use a suction cup.
Give it a try.

I made a beautiful suncatcher out of clear plastic coasters (6 for $1.00 at Family Dollar Store.) I took the cork out of the coaster and then had to remove some of the residual glue (I used a product called "Goo be gone", I think that's the name of it.) I used an electric drill and carefully drilled a small hole and attached fishing line to hang it by. I am a collector of sea/beach glass so I used this to make a colorful mosaic (I used Elmer's glue.) I've used this as a craft project at the Assisted Living facility where I am the activities person.

depends, what kind of sun catchers? I took mirror squares and glued them back to back with a piece of fishing string between them. (used gorilla glue). I alternated the mirror squares and a drilled piece of glass... Then I took a keychain that broke made like a crystal and tied it at the bottom so it would look complete.
The other way I made one is I bought a special glass drilling bit and some opaque glass paint. Painted my design on a piece of round glass that came out of a clock, strung a chain through it and hung it.

You can make transparent "stained glass" type things by painting the clear plastic shapes you can buy at a craft store (with "glass paints"), for one way.
You could also melt clear candies and pour them into "cells" of one kind or another, or use more exotic materials like epoxy resins, etc.
I'm most familiar with the types made from polymer clay though, usually using tinted liquid polymer clay. These can be done on a rigid surface, or they can be made as "decals" or "window clings."
For more info on those, check out this page at my site:

(... look in the categories called
...."STAINED GLASS"
...."CLOISONNE," "ENAMELING"
... FILMS, DECALS )

I hang up strands of costume jewelry. Old glass Mardi Gras beads are nice. I haven't yet hung up shards of broken junk mail CDs, but I've seen it done.

If you want a true Sun Catcher, you really should use crytsal prisms. They cost a little bit more....but there's definitely a reason that they are called "Rainbow Makers"!!
