These days, everything they say is remembered, due to increased communications. This has become a problem for some candidates. It used to be that a candidate would travel from place to place, telling each group what they wanted to hear. But it's almost impossible for them to do that now, as everything they say goes on the record. We've seen many instances of this in recent years (John Kerry some of the most notable ones).

Yeah, but one slip-up doesn't amount to much. People have short memories. However, if they keep doing it time & again, that's another story.
