I am not too sure about the UK but in Ireland any enclosed area is prohibited area. Some nightclubs opened up the roofs in some small rooms where everyone can go and smoke. Overall I think it has been a success. Smokers socialise outside the pubs and clubs.

Coming from Scotland we have had the rule here for a while, I am a smoker and can see why non smokers would be happy with the rule in restaurants, but what the high and mighty don`t seem to realise is that it is peoples livelyhood that they are deciding on. Are we so stupid that we can`t choose whether we go to a smoking establishment or to a non smoking establishment Cafe Bar Restaurant ? I have friends who came here from Russia years ago to get away from dictatorships and now they are thinking of going back where they say " We can decide what we do and when we do it " So much for our free country........

We are very friendly with the landlord of our local, he was telling us on sunday that any structure they want to build as a smoking area has to be pre-approved. Anything with more than 2 full walls is rejected. He is putting up an awning, so just a shelter really.

You will NOT be allowed to smoke inside the pub AT ALL. You will be forced to stand outside in the rain/wind. So why not just set that date as the date you are going to quit smoking. YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE.

Smokers need to quit killing themselves and kill other people by secondhand smoking so they deserve no accommodations but to get help quiting.
