I have a 2000 Chevy Lumina, which i purchased from the original owner four years ago. It was in mint condition. However, I've put 80k miles on it and now it seems everything is going wrong all at once.
My heat is not working in the interior, or at the least intermittently. Also, my o2 sensor went (not a big deal I was assured). The thing that is troubling me is that my temp gauge on the dash goes up and down fairly quickly. I did discover that someone had filled the antifreeze container with motor oil and I had it flushed as soon as i realized it. (I have no idea how this happened except I asked my friend to check the fluids when he borrowed the car)
My brother seems to think it could have been a bad thermostat for both the interior heat and the temp guage on the dash. I have no idea. can anyone help?

Yup, sounds like you've either blown a head or intake gasket and the oil and antifreeze are now mixing. Remove the oil filler cap and look for an ice cream type mixture attached to everything inside. If there is this stuff, stop driving and running the motor as you have a serious problem and further damage coming. The motor will have to be taken apart to find where the two are mixing, hopefully just a gasket. If this is not the case, kick the crap out of your buddy that put oil into the cooling system. Remove the thermostat and reflush the coolant system with an oil remover of some type and then plenty of hot water. Replace the thermostat when satisfied all of the oil is out and recheck. Good luck.

there is not any longer something incorrect, it merely desires resetting. each and every time the oil is replaced the easy should be reset. With the ignition key in RUN yet engine off, totally push and launch the accelerator pedel slowly thrice interior 5 seconds If the CHG OIL quickly easy flashes, the systyem is reseting turn the main to OFF then initiate the automobile. If the CHG OIL quickly easy comes back on the gadget has no longer reset. Repeat prosedure. it incredibly is stright from my 1998 Lumina oweners manuel.

Sounds like you have either a blown head gasket or a cracked head. I would bet the oil in the coolant overflow container comes back.

it sounds like it's low on coolant, whice will cause the problems your having. do a cooling system pressure test to locate any leak. (the intake gasket on those are bad to leak so look at that )
