Two different lines of thought. If you're religious, the people came from God, who created people in His own image. If you're not religious, then people evolved from ancestors who were like monkeys and apes. Her choice. Or ask him what he thinks and learn something from him.

Depends whether you believe in creation or evolution theory.

The former states that God made the first man (Adam), while the latter tells us that human beings evolved from apes - so basically over a few generations, some apes gave birth to babies that were a little bit different, then a bit more different, and so on until the babies looked more like humans than apes. That's when men appeared.

Hope that's simple enough for a 6 year old!
(An intelligent question by the way, don't kids come out with the greatest stuff?)

If you are religious the first person ever created was Adam and then God made Eve because he decided that it was not good for man to live alone.Look up the story in the first story of the Bible. which focuses on creation of the world.

I'm afraid I can't. I am still wondering myself. If you accept the evolutionary argument, the next question on the subject from your friend's son will be 'Where did the first living creature of any kind come from?'
