I have posted this question on Yahoo UK but didn’t get any replies so I am now asking the world to see there is a better response.
I keep asking people what is the “actual” size of an old English Five Pound Note that was issued in the WW2 period and get wildly differing answers.
Amazingly some answers are given in both inches and millimetres that don’t match within ½”.

Does anyone out there actually know the answer?
or can give a address of a website that could supply the answer?
or actually own one that they could measure for me?
or maybe they didn’t really exist and it is only a figment of ‘the old Blighty’ regime’s imagination?
Thanks

They are certainly not a figment of people's imagination - I remember my first holiday after I started work in 1961. I was paid a bonus and took my spending money in white fivers. I've had a google and cannot easily find any site which gives the size. The Bank of England has a website:- http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/index.htm and does invite queries, so why not contact them for the definitive answer? Sorry I can't be more helpful!

They did indeed have white fivers. I remember my grandfather showing me one, in the good old days when you could get champagne and oysters for a penny and still get a farthing change!

This site has everything on Bank of England notes. For the white fiver, click on the 'Series A notes'.

If you need to own one, go to ebay. They even sell money there, along with the junk.
