FakePlasticTrees, I think of how old the state is, or rather, how old West Virginia seems.
I distinctly remember crossing from Kentucky into WV and was struck at the marked difference.
Like stepping back in time and this impression comes only from the scenery!
I think of the New River and how (despite it's name) this
river is considered (by some geologists) to be possibly the oldest river in the world, between 10 and 360 million years old!
So yes I think of WV and immediately think
Life is old there, older than the tress
~~ John Denver totally nailed it! ~~
Oh and I think of Wheeling, a great city where I spent some time once!

That West Virginia was created during the civil war when the state split into two over the issue of whether or not to secceed. Parts in western Virginia didn't want to, so they secceeded from Virginia to become West Virginia to join the union.

i think of country, and beauty...it's what you make of it. I live in a small farm town in Illinois, but I regularly go to Chicago, which is about an hour away. Watch out for the creepy people though. I have heard some things about west virginia.

John Denver: 'Country Roads'
Paul Anka : Wheelin' West Virginia.
I've never been there, I can only relate lines of memorable songs to it.
