Why is there an Easter Sunday and Monday?

Good friday is the day jesus was crucified and died on the cross and easter sunday was the ressurection of jesus, and easter monday is the holiday following, over here in australia it is a public holiday

I have never heard of an Easter Monday.

Normally, Monday does come immediately after Sunday.
