as a general rule if on probation most employers really don't expect much in the way of notice,However if there is the slightest chance you may want to re-apply to this firm then by all means give a notice of 2 weeks if it is possible if not then as much as possible say a week in either case talk to the H.R. Dept and leave on as good a terms as is possible,I employ 12 to 25 people depending on the time of year and the numbers needed out the door in product and if someone quits on me after only a short period I understand my work isn't for everyone and there are no hard feelings. All employers aren't the same but all do appreciate the courtesy of at least a sit down to discuss the situation,in several instances it has even proven to keep the employ on the job and has without a doubt convinced me to rehire some of them at later dates as well as I have even made a few friends.
Just be cordial and explain your situation you may be surprised just how well it goes.

It depends. If you haven't signed a contract and are not obligated to stay on in the job then to be polite a week's notice is a good thing. If you are on your three month probation and have signed contracts confirming this perhaps 2 weeks to be nice!
If I had to leave my job I'd give 3-4 if I could. That's because I respect the team I work with and want to get someone trained and ready to take over before I leave....avoiding leaving everyone in the lurch.
Ask your HR department for advice as well.

If you are in the Uk and have worked for the employer for less than a year, the notice period is a week - probation periods have no status in Uk employment law. However, if your written terms and conditions say a longer period, the longer period applies.

If you are on probation there are several factors to consider. #1 if you havn't completed your probationary period then you would never consider using this employer as a reference. Sooooooo the notification period does not matter!!! Cut and run!!!!

There's not a legal requirement for giving notice, but it's pretty standard to give two weeks. It's not unusual, especially if you're fairly new at the job, for the employer to tell you to leave right away when you give notice.
