Silly question, but, do you have the heat control turned all the way down? I ask, because I had a cool moist morning in the spring when I needed heat on my front windshield, but late afternoon the car was hot in the sun, and I put on my a/c. It took me a while to realize I wasn't cooling off much because I still had heat on as well.

a filter being dirty would not make hot air come out when you have the ac on, lets be real. you are out of freon homeboy, or there is a problem with your refrigeration system. first make sure your engine temp is not high when this happens though. that could put an expensive answer to your question. you can get do it your self freon refill kits at any automotive store

1. You are most likely out of freon.
2. is your compressor running at all or is the light just on for the ac button?
3. if your ac is running and you have the switch to cold, and its on max, you may have a leak in one of your hoses and the freon is just getting out.
the most likely thing is that you are out of freon or the compressor is not running at all and you're actually just running the fan. this could be due to a busted compressor, lost belt, etc.

if it is putting out hot air, not just luke warm air, it is not a freon issue. it would have nothing to do with the a/c unit. my guess is something is wrong with either a valve in the heater hose that goes to the heater core, or something is wrong in the duct system where a door isn't closing to stop the heat from entering the car. i recently had this problem, and it was broken hinges on one of my duct doors. and it was a real bi**h to fix!

Make sure the filter is clean. Make sure its on cool and not vent.

If those two things are okay, it probably needs freon.
