Good question, its a refreshing change for a man to be able to admit that they cry,i think the reason is that as men get older, they dont have to aspire so much to the 'macho image',issues that dont affect the younger man, have more of an impact as we get more mature.

this is definitely a side-effect of getting older and experiencing more and seeing more. I think that some of it has to do with letting go of your previous identity (macho male, competitive worker, athlete, etc) that people adopt when they're young, and which prevent you from displaying what you perceive as weakness. However, some of it is, I'm sure, to do with the accumulation of experiences that you have in your life. When you're young then you generally go to parties, weddings, stuff to do with the celebration of life and the future. As you get older then, sadly, there' s a few more illnesses and disabilities of people you know, and more funerals and you lose your parents - all of this affects us deeply, whether we show it or not. The sadder experiences are now more recent than the glad ones, and therefore get restimulated by reading or seeing stuff that touches the nerve. It's like your emotions are nearer to the surface and it's harder to keep them buried.
I'm in that category now, I always thought I was your typical stiff-upper lipped Englishwoman but in the last few years I'm finding that more things can make my eyes water .... beautiful sunsets, reading about tragedies abroad, hearing exquisite music.
I'm not sure this is a bad thing but it's odd, isn't it, that it creeps upon you and you cannot work out why. Don't be embarrassed or ashamed about this, just accept it as a badge of wisdom and experience.

The freedom to cry is amazing and as a man you demonstrate great security, sensitivity and depth of emotional feeling when you can respond with crying to the things that impact you. That said, if you find that lots of things send you to tears, more than you would want to, there may be an underlying cause.

One reason my be the kinds of things you're reading. Another may have to do with the state of the world. However, stress and unresolved grief can also bring on an emotional response from events that would not ordinarily impact us this way.

It may be any number of things. Being older, more experienced, more sensitive to the emotions you're feeling all play into it. If you're bothered by it, consider talking to a trained counselor, pastor or good listener. They may help you find that underlying issue.

As one who firmly believes in prayer, I find that I pray about the things that bring me to tears. Just an idea. Maybe it's a call to pray. In order to pray diligently and faithfully, we often must feel deeply about something, and often that brings us to tears. God gives amazing grace and scripture says that God holds everyone of our tears, so precious are you to God.

It is OK for you to cry , as you do over situations and things you read about. I believe it shows that you are more of a man, because you allow yourself to express your emotions and feelings. So many men think it is not macho for a man to cry and show his inner feelings and get emotional. I say go ahead and express your emotions and feelings, for it is good for the mind, spirit and soul. I myself am a female and this is my point of view. Hope I have helped you in this matter.

Perhaps because you were raised by a loving family and were taught to feel. So many men are taught that tough equally macho. Show me a man who cries and I'll know that he has compassion and love. However, if you are crying for unknown causes or feel that you are unable to control your emotions, you may have a depression issue (which you will need to seek professional help).

I'm 50 and when I watch Touched by an Angel I get pretty misty eyed. Don't be ashamed that you cry I do. I try to keep my crying for at home. The guys at work would NOT let me live that down.

If you've ever "had yourself a good cry" and you are male...you might be a liberal

Other signs that You Might Be a Liberal:

-You believe that more federal regulations will make your life better

-You believe in global warming today just as firmly as you believed in global cooling back in the 1970s

-You are worried about how the French view Americans

-You cannot name one single NASCAR driver

Crying is one way of expressing emotions. Man and women cry and there's no need to feel ashame about it. At least you know you are human and not an unfeeling robot.

Men have sensative souls too. I too think that this heart felt emotion gets more prominant as we age. Maybe we stop and think more, instead of breezing through life when we are young. But I think you must be a compassionate individual and
someone who cares. If only there were more men like you.

That's because you are in touch with your feelings and emotions and not trying to mask them behind a macho image. I'm a guy and the same as you, so there's nothing to worry about and there is nothing wrong with showing your feelings.
